I was recently in Costa Rica and the house I was staying in was broken into and a lot of my stuff (passport, $, clothing, etc) was stolen. Has anyone had a similar experience? What did you do?

Well i have had a similar experience.....
all of us were going to visit a relatives house. On reaching there , as i tried to get of the cab i banged my leg with the door & i got a cut. All of us huried me into the house & tried to prevent further bleeding. All of us were in panic as it was a major accident.

The head of the house paid the cab & the cabbie left.
The next morning when my mom went to find the bags for brushing her teeth , she couldn't find any. Then we realized that we had left the bags in the rear-side of the cab & in panic we had forgotten to unload the bags.

Luckily the head of the house we had visited had good contacts with the city's transport. We got our bags somehow in a day but it was 1 kind of a lesson for all of us.

Hope something like this never happens with others.
I really feel sorry for what has happened with you please take care the next time.

HI,

Sorry to hear that this has happened to you.

You should go to your embassy asap to report that your passport has been stolen and get a new one quickly.

You should also report this to the police.

Often insurance policies will only pay out compensation if you have a letter from the local police, or at least some sort of document to say that you have reported it.

Good luck!

Suzanne

Yes someone stole my mom's bag while we were eating at a pizza hut. Lost all valuables and passports...The police could not do anything...I think it was somewhere in Europe
