It was the worst experience of my life. The destruction, the cries for help and not being able to do anything, the suffering of those around us and the stuggle to survive the most devastating disaster to hit the coast. God Bless those who didnt make it and their families for their losses. I am blessed to be here and i am a survivor. I miss New Orleans. I miss home!!!

Many of us were...I've been thru hurricanes before, Betsy was the worst for me. I live on the west side (westbank) of the Mississippi River and did not experience the flooding. I lost an ornamental pear tree, and had some fence damage.
The really scary part, was dealing with the aftermath. Looters took over the city, and tensions were high. Everyone, (including myself), was armed, and prepared to defend their property. That combined with knowing so many on the other side of the river were suffering in their attics, (temps were around 98 deg.), and so many drowned made life after the storm almost unbearable. We didn't see any assistance from outside for almost a week. Our local police force was decimated, however the ones who remained are heroes. It was chaos. I am an Army combat veteran, and always thought my country would be there for me. They took too long to get here, thanks to our governess's indecision.
I could rave forever about this......

i was at work during the hurricane i work at an hospital and I was pregnant i lost a few pounds and dehydrated i went to l&d got some iv fluids and continued working. it was hard but if i was not pregnant i think it would have been better. I just could not take so much being extra emotinal and my family was out of town. I was the only one left behind. I made it out thank goodness with minor stracthes but a lot of memories.

yep.. i'm 30min north of New Orleans .. it was mandatory for my area to evacuate.. but i didn't. When the electricity went out 12 hours before it was suppose to hit land.. i heard huge bursts through out my house.. it was my computer, dryer and oven exploding. by the next morning when it hit land.. i watched all the trees around my house and neighborhood fall. It was one of the scarest days of the life.. but i tell you what.. i'd do it again.
this is where i belong.. where we all belong
