The nefarious connotations of 666 weren't invented by some heavy metal band -- they are rooted in the Bible.
The final book of the New Testament is Revelation, and for centuries theologians have pondered its highly symbolic, prophetic language. Revelation tells of impending Armageddon, an end of all time, when a great war will be fought between good and evil, and God will triumph. In Revelation, "the beast," also called the Antichrist, personifies evil.
Revelation, Chapter 13 speaks of the beast and how to identify his followers. According to verses 16 and 17, they will have the mark or the name or number of the beast on their right hands or foreheads. Verse 18 introduces the number 666 itself: "Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."
It's unclear why the specific number 666 is the number of the beast. According to Dial-the-Truth Ministries, the number 6 is the number of man because in the Bible, God created man on the sixth day. Elsewhere in the Bible (Matthew 16:23), Satan is described as being "man-centered" (as opposed to God-centered). Thus the devil's number would be a twist on man's number. This is just one theory, and the number 666 has generated plenty of debate.

Today many people think of certain numbers as lucky, and others as unlucky (such as 13).
In New Testament times, 7 was considered the number of goodness or perfection. 6 is not quite 7, so 6 was considered the number of incompleteness, imperfection, or evil.
7 is perfection and 777 was considered the ultimate in perfection. 6 was considered evil, so 666 was the ultimate of evil. The number repeated shows emphasis.
Why is it the number of Satan? I don't believe it is. Read the passage in Revelation. It says, "It is the number of a Man". I believe the man was one of the Cesar's who persecuted the early Christians.

I was investigating that in the Bible and the number 666 which is PROBABLY a number God chose at random stands for someone's name. The Bible says if one is clever then that person will be able to figure out who's name it is because 666 stands for someone's (alive) name. All I was able to find out is that in Hebrew the number 6 is a letter W. If you crack the code let me know since I'm very curious.

As I go through life, fixing my mistakes one at a time, I’ve learned a thing or two about Karma, and part of keeping good Karma is sharing it with others. I hope these notions help you as much as they’ve helped me.
Do good things and good things will happen to you. Do bad things and it will come back and bite you in the ***.
If you want a better life, you need to be a better person.
Bad luck might be contagious. It wouldn’t be fair to bring someone into your life until you clean yours up.
Never underestimate the power of confidence. And never underestimate fifteen beers, a little enlightenment, and the power of Rob Base and DJ Easy Rock.
A person needs a little rest after having his moustache tickled at a gay bar.
You have to do the hard things in life sooner or later.
If you want the reward, you have to do the work.
The secret to life is fixing all the bad things that you’ve done.
Whether picking up trash, returning stolen merchandise, or helping a homosexual find love, it always has the same reward… feeling good about yourself.
Karma. You got to love it.

Recently, Zola Levitt interviewed an ex-Moslem, and convert to Christ, Mr. Walid Shoebat. During the conversation, Shoebat said that he was startled to see the Greek letters χξς′ translated, “666” in Revelation 13:18. He said that if one draws these same letters as if they were Arabic letters, the χ becomes the crossed swords of Islam, (the symbol of which is on the national flag of Saudi Arabia), and the ξς′ are identical to Arabic letters that translate into English as: “in the name of Allah!”

666 is the number of the beast in the bible.
The Number of the Beast is described in the Book of Revelation. Revelation 13:18 states:
"Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. "
Though some people believe the biblical reference is a code for a roman emperor and not the anti-christ or one of its henchmen.

666 is not the number of the devil. It is the number of a man who represents the anti-Christ. He will trick those who don't know into believing many wonderful things he will do.
