I've recently been prescribed advair for my mild asthma. I haven't started taking it yet because i read some of the warnings and they scared me. One warning said that one ofthe ingredients in it caused death in some people. My doctor insists it's safe, but last year he also said that using albuterol everyday was safe, and now he's changed his mind about that. I'm wondering if the risks are worth treating my mild asthma. I usually use my inhaler 2-4 times a day for mild wheezing, usually after i wake up and after i eat. I know that's to often, but are steroids necessary for this? I tried singulair and it didn't really help all that much.. Please if you are on advair leave me a comment. Thanks

Advair and Singular have both been proven to be ineffective in managing asthma. A steroid inhaler such as Flovent or QVar (there are others) will help the inflamation in your airways. Then if you have an attack you can use albuterol or a combination of albuterol and ipatropium call Combivent if needed. I have been a guinea pig for all these medications for years and am doing well on Combivent and QVar.

I am on advair and albuterol, but I have found something wonderful that takes the wheezing away. I abused the use of my albuterol also but now find that I use it once or twice a day.
Take an empty nasal spray bottle, (the squeeze type not the pump type) and fill it about half full or less with over the counter, 6%, hydrogen peroxide. When you start to wheeze, put your head down, like you are looking at your lap.
Exhale all the way out, aim the nozzle toward the back of your throat, and while inhaling, squeeze the bottle , four quick times to create a mist. I'm living proof that this works and don't go anywhere without it.
I do hope you will give this a try. It eliminated my advair altogether and I only use my albuterol once or twice during the day.
My very best to you
Hope

My brother is an asthmatic and after ten years his asthma has shown no sign of improving. He has been to several doctors but they didn't help much.

If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.

I've been on Advair for about two or three years now with no bad side effects.

I began on the 500/50---- and about 2 months ago my Dr changed it to 250/50 because he read a study that said the 500/50 had no greater effect than the 250/50...so why take more than you need?

I know that if I don't take it for a few days....I start having trouble with shortness of breath and wheezing.

Personally....it works for me.

It's mostly safe. Question it though because if you've only got mild asthma you shouldn't need a combination inhaler like Advair. Did your doc or nurse try you on just a steroid inhaler first?

I have been on the HIGHEST dose of advair prescribed for over 3 years (500mg 2x daily) and have NEVER had any problems. Yes, if you are using your inahler that often, definitely steroids are necessary. Again, I have NEVER had any problems with advair, and I find it much more effective than any of the other steroids they have given me, and I've been on a ton of different kinds. Don't be afraid to try it, if you are concerned, just monitor your symptoms, and report anything unusual to your doctor right away, but again, I highly doubt you will have ANY problems!

Best of luck!

I have been on Advair diskus twice a day for a few years now, twice daily with no problems, inaddition to combivent inhaler 4 times a day and nebulizer with albuterol and O2 at 2 litres.
It may not be safe for everyone, but you need to discuss your concerns with your Dr. before you make a decision not to follow his decision. Make an informed decision together. That would be my advice. Make an appointment asap.

Hi, I was on ADVAIR-500/50 for 2 years and just stopped taking it because of negative things i have red and heard about this ADVAIR.If you can avoid it,i recommend you do.It is and can be helpful, but the downfall is when you may be having a serious attack.ADVAIR even tells you that using their product may cause you to have more chances of death due to a more serious attack. The company has to state these possible risks by law now.Do you know what was unsafe about albuterol?because i take that everyday. Please let me know. Thanks
