Plain and simple, pain in your left arm of any kind are signs of a heart attack. Sounds like you had a blocked artery.
As for a woman, symptoms are disregarded as anxiety or panic attacks. Women are not taken serious when it comes to heart problems. I know this for a fact. When I had my heart attack I told them I thought I was having a panic attack. Before I went to the hospital, I had a pain shoot from my left arm across my chest over to my right arm. However, when I started falling to the floor of the ER everybody started moving. I had a mio cardiac infarction.
Their are many more signs of a heart attack. We know our own body, so when something doesn't seem right head for the ER.

Hollywood has done a very good job of dramatizing heart attacks. Not everyone has the same symptoms. Sometimes diabetics don't even feel pain, called a silent MI (heart attack). Women rarely have the crushing chest and arm pain that men experience. Everyone is different. The important thing is that you get to know your own signs and symptoms as you integrate a heart healthy lifestyle. Cardiac Rehab can help you with the transition to a full and active life.

Because no two people are the same, therefore, their symptoms may not be the same. Any time you have prolonged pain like that, you should be checked by your doctor.
Of course, that doesn't always matter either, my mother had complained of hurting in her back for about a week, I took her to see her doctor on a Monday, he checked her thoroughly and did an EKG. He could find nothing wrong, I took her back on Wednesday and again on Friday for the same pain. Nothing showed in the exams or the EKGs, but that Saturday night she suffered a massive heart attack and passed away the next day. She had no history of heart problems, so there was no warning at all. I am thankful that your condition was found in time. Please live each day to the fullest, because not every one has that opportunity. May God bless you and your family.

It is easy to differentiate. If pain arises in left shoulder (not referred from heart) the pain increases with movements of shoulder. If it is from heart it is unrelated to shoulder movement.
