Hey Mark! You dork! The question implies that Americans should answer. Dork!
And to whoever it was that cited the Rush lyrics? Great song but Rush is Canadian :-)
What I like about being American? FREEDOM! I am free to go to school, learn all I wish to learn, and I am free to take that knowledge and better the world in some small way. Women in alot of countries don't enjoy that freedom.
My daughter will be free to pursue whatever dream she has in her heart-whether she wants to be an astronaut, a scientists, a dentist, or a ditch digger.
I love that this country produced some of the greatest men in history-Martin Luther King Jr, JFK, Ronald Reagan, George Patton, Ben Franklin, Henry Ford Patrick Henry, Harry Connick Jr (sorry, but he is a hottie) and I love that our country has the balls to stand up against aggression and fight for freedom, even when it's not popular to do so.
I love my country, Cantcu-If you hate it so much LEAVE. I'll gladly contribute to the "cantcu is leaving" fund. The USofA doesn't need you and your crap.
Sorry- I know I exceeded the 50 word limit, but it is the greatest nation on earth!

I've been an American for 57 plus years, twenty of that in the U.S. Air Force. We have the liberty to say what we think about our politicians, good or bad, and not fear reprisals for it. We can vote anyone in or out of office from dog catchers to the president or we can not vote at all. The people run the country though it doesn't seem like it at times. We have our problems, some we've had since the beginning and some we'll have to the end. But, all in all, this is the best country in the world. We have a lot of thorns but we're still a rose.

Just simply what July 4th stands for. Independence, Freedom, Liberty and Justice for all. No other, absolutely no other country in the world has the freedoms which we enjoy in The United States of America. Be sure that you understand why I so feverently say the United States of America. The Venezuelans are Americans, the Cubans are Americans and so is all of latin and South America. But they do not enjoy the freedoms of the United States of America. Probably over my 50 words but you can not describe this great coutry in 50 words.

I could be cold to all the non Americans that speak so poorly about America. But I'm not. America is beautiful, not just the land scape's, but the people also. There is no place like it, that's why so many people travel here, immigrate here, and will die trying to get here. It stands for freedom, a place you can just live. Most people in the world, even in the most remote parts know of America.

The Declaration Of Independence, The Bill Of Right, the Constitution... Apple Pie, Baseball, football and NASCAR.....American Cars and bikes, American spirit, resolve, and compasion.... the Coast Guard, Marines, Army, Navy, and Air Force..I believe if we wanted we are the only country that could close the border not only to immigrants but to trade and still survive, there is nothing we can not make or do for ourselves

Without the United States, the world would be a miserable backward toilet. We've liberated countless number of people from repression and tyranny. We've been the source of the greatest inventions and the most fantastic accomplishments. We've improved the lives of every person on the planet. All that in 230 years.

US really is the best place on earth still because it's constantly trying to better itself. Its proud but never too proud to learn from other cultures. How many countries can that they host so many cultures and allow each culture to foster as much as they in the US. It allows people to have individual opinions even against the country itself. It's a place in which people with differing ideals can support the liberty that allows them to co-exist in peace. US is the best place place because its designed to value life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all people.

The Star Trek Enterprise series had one redeeming feature: its theme song. The lyrics were:
It's been a long road,
To get from there to here.
It's been a long time,
but my time is finally here.
And I can feel a change
in the wind right now.
Nothing's in my way.
And they're not gonna
hold me down no more.
No they're not gonna hold me down.
'Cause I've got faith of the heart.
I'm going where my heart
will take me.
I've got faith to believe.
I can do anything.
I've got strength of the soul.
And no one's going to bend
or break me.
I can reach any star.
I've got faith,
I've got faith,
Faith of the heart.
,,,,, in the background, you see the whole process of air and space flight advancement, from simple balloons to primitive rockets, to a warp drive-driven spacecraft. Being American is the same. We progress rather quickly from one concept to another. We have faith of the heart.
That's how America is. In the words of Rush, "New World Man"
Words by neil peart, music by geddy lee and alex lifeson
Hes a rebel and a runner
Hes a signal turning green
Hes a restless young romantic
Wants to run the big machine
Hes got a problem with his poisons
But you know hell find a cure
Hes cleaning up his systems
To keep his nature pure
Learning to match the beat of the old world man
Learning to catch the heat of the third world man
Hes got to make his own mistakes
And learn to mend the mess he makes
Hes old enough to know whats right
But young enough not to choose it
Hes noble enough to win the world
But weak enough to lose it ---
Hes a new world man...
Hes a radio receiver
Tuned to factories and farms
Hes a writer and arranger
And a young boy bearing arms
Hes got a problem with his power
With weapons on patrol
Hes got to walk a fine line
And keep his self-control
Trying to save the day for the old world man
Trying to pave the way for the third world man
Hes not concerned with yesterday
He knows constant change is here today
Hes noble enough to know whats right
But weak enough not to choose it
Hes wise enough to win the world
But fool enough to lose it ---
Hes a new world man...

I'm not an american so I can't tell you what its like about being an american but I will tell you what I like about America(ns) you have a collective good accent, good food, interesting inventions and no matter how much everyone else think you suck you are still proud of yourself. That's not meant to be an insult or anything like that, I'm just saying its an admirable quality.

The very idea that we can do what we are doing now in a civil
manner. I like to have choices, options, freedoms, liberties
and peace of mind. I like being able to worship how I like
when I like. We are still a "baby" nation and developing
quite well, I think. All Praise to G-d the Creator of the
Heavens and the earth.
