Lacto Ovo Vegetarian
A lacto ovo vegetarian does not eat meat, fish or poultry, but eats eggs and milk. They eat eggs and products made with eggs in them, yogurt, cheese, milk and ice creams.
Lacto Vegetarian
A lacto vegetarian does not eat meat, fish, poultry or eggs, but includes dairy products in their diet. They will eat milk, ice cream (that does not include eggs), yogurt and cheese. They would avoid ice creams, baked goods, pancakes and veggie burgers that contain eggs.
Vegan
A vegan does not eat any fish, meat, poultry, eggs, dairy products or foods that contain any of these products. They also do not use any non-food items that contain products from animals, including wool from sheep, leather and silk. Vegans often do not eat honey, because bees may be killed while harvesting it.
According to many vegans, it is pronounced VEE-gun. A vegan diet consists of vegetables, grains, beans, nuts, fruits and seeds. This diet tends to be high in fiber and moderate in protein and fat.
A vegan will not use margarine that has casein, a milk product, in it and they do not use shoes that are made from leather. Vegans do not eat white granulated sugar because it is often processed by using char derived from animal bones to whiten the sugar. They also do not use products that are tested on animals, as are many cosmetics.
Macrobiotics
A macrobiotic diet is mainly vegetarian, but macrobiotic diets often include seafood. In this diet all other meat products are excluded, as are eggs and dairy products. They also do not eat "nightshade vegetables" (potato, pepper and eggplant), refined sugar and tropical fruits. This diet contains many foods found in Asian countries such as miso soup, root vegetables (daikon and lotus) and sea vegetables (seaweed, kelp, arame).
It emphasizes eating locally grown foods that are in season. Meals consist of 50% to 60% grains, 25% locally grown produce, and the rest of the diet mainly consists of beans and soups. In lesser amounts fruits, nuts and seeds are eaten.
This diet is based on the Chinese principles of yin and yang. Some people follow this diet as a philosophy of life and others follow it for health reasons.
Fruitarian
A fruitarian is a person who only eats fruits and vegetables that are actually classified as fruits such as avocados, nuts, seeds, eggplant, zucchini and tomatoes.
Raw or Living Food Diet
One who follows a raw food diet is a person who for the most part only eats raw foods that are not cooked. One who follows this type of diet believes that cooking changes food in a negative way and makes it less nutritious, diminishing the vitamin and mineral contents of the food. Most people who follow a raw-food diet only eat between 50% to 80% of their food raw. There is some logic to a raw food diet in the fact that cooking food destroys nutrients. But cooking food on the other hand makes foods easier to digest, which often offsets the anti-nutritional factors.

You have a lot of different types of vegetarians-
Vegans- they will not eat anything that has meat in it! No eggs, seafood or milk, or foods containing any of the above. So, no butter, only specialized bread, and no cakes. It's a very strict style, but it's still doable. Beans are often used to substitute lack of protien.
Lacto Ova Vegitarians- similar to vegans, but allow milk and egg products in their diets.
There are casual vegetarians that will allow fish and chicken into their diet.
Then you have the kind of vegetarians that only avoid eating animals that are cute.
If you are trying to make a vegitarian meal, you can do this and be safe.
wild or brown rice(Don't use butter to make, try a margarine or vegetable oil.)
Steamed asparagus, broccolini, carrots
roasted squash zucchini and red pepper strips.
Chunky tomato sauce
Season your steamed veggies with a little olive oil and salt and pepper.
To roast the others, coat lightly in balsamic vinigarette and lay out on a sheet pan. Put in oven @ 350 for about 30 min or until tender.
Mix the roasted veggies together for a nice salad type dish. The steamed ones can be used as an entree
put the tomato sauce on the rice.
They're actyally very tasty. it's not hard to be one, It's just a matter of what choices you make.

It depends for what reason you want to become vegetarian. To be a true vegetarian you can't eat any meat, sefood or chicken.
A vegan eats nothing that comes from an animal, like eggs, milk and even chocolate (because it has milk in it). Strict vegans can't eat honey, because of the belief that the honey belongs to the bees.
A pescatarian is someone who doesn't eat meat but still eats seafood.
If you want to become vegetarian you must decide why: ie. health reasons, protest against animal cruelty, etc.
and then you will need to see your doctor and they will arrange regular blood tests and put you on some iron supplements. Vegetarian recipe books are available at any good book shop.

Go to your nearest Health Food Store or local book store (Borders, Barnes and Nobles, etc.) and get the book "How to Eat According to Your Blood Type". I didn't know that there was a difference in the types of food that people could eat based on their blood types and after being a Vegetarian for over 30 years and having pernicious anemia at the same time, I found out that I needed to eat a "little" red meat every now and then, to build healthy red blood cells. Otherwise, you have to make sure you substitute or replace meat with the proper sources of proteins in your diet like soybeans, peanut butter, other nuts and legumes, and protein substitutes like tofu that are readily available in your supermarket or local health food store.

Strict vegetarians do not eat meat or seafood (the methodology being that fish is another animal which should not have to die so humans can eat, when we have plenty of plant-based food to live off).
Common variations on vegetarianism include:
- Eating seafood and white meat, but not red meat (I have maintained a diet like this for several years, not liking the taste of red meat in large quantities),
- Excluding meat and dairy food (but not all animal products; for example, they may still consume food fried in animal fats). Diets such as this can exist to meet dietary requirements (i.e. lactose intolerance) and/or support individual beliefs regarding the treatment of animals (e.g. in addition to slaughtering an animal for food, eating milk products takes milk that would otherwise be used to feed a calf).
Think about the reasons that you want to become a vegetarian, and decide on the best diet for you based on those reasons.

There is no need to kill animals if we can get nutrition without meat. Even though humans are omnivores we humans can't think and decide. Since humans are able to decide and not rely on instict it is what makes us different from animals. In other words humans should either try becoming vegetarian or reduce the amount of meat they consume because people these days eat way too much meat and have you seen how unhealthy people in america is becoming? I say it's due to meat because they have bad things in there such as heart decease, stroke, too much cholesterol and it gives way too much fat. READ THIS TO FIND OUT WHERE TO GET YOUR NUTRIENTS FROM AND HOPEFULLY IT HELPS As for protein beans, nuts, brown rice, and soy would be great for protein. Soy would be best because it has so much protein inside to help build strength and muscle. If you want to get more protein you can try combining which works well As for iron black beans, cashews, oatmeal, raising, and bread would be a great source to build up iron. As for Vitamin B12 I believe soy, and dairy would probably be the only source for all I know. Sorry I couldn't give you much details on that. As for calcium I think dairy and spinach would be great. Again I am sorry for the lack of answers for calcium. For Vitamin I believe cereal and mushroom would be a great source. And furthermore I am sorry for lack of answers for Vitamin Anyways all you need to do is know how to eat right and you will feel healthier. I hope some of this helped out and good luck!

You can eat sea food if you want, or not if you don't want to. The only reason to become a vegetarian is because you want to, so you should decide yourself what you are and aren't ok with. There's no set rules.

There are different types of vegetarians. Vegans, Lacto-ovo (eat milk products and eggs) and those that include fish and seafood. Examine your reasons and resources and decide what you want to do. Just put vegetarian, vegetarian recipes, into your search engine. Good luck.

A great place to start is to simply go to your local Food Co-op if you have one. Here is the national directory for the US

Great veggie cookbooks are "Laurels' Kitchen" and "Horn of the Moon"
Sea food is meat so they don't eat it.
The best part of it is that you lose weight - but NOT if you eat a lot of fattening things like chocolate and cheese.

It's a gradual process. You can just wake up one day and be a vegetarian. First you may want to consault a nutritionist to ensure that you get a balance of all necessary nutriens in your diet. One of the first things you can do to become tp a vegetarian it to start by eliminating meat products from your meals and evetually more and more can be eleminated and you'll become close to being a vegetarian.
