Every medical procedure has implications. The question is does she really NEED to do this now for her good health and development?
From the way you describe, I would say she does. The asthma can be life threatening and having her esophagus exposed to all that stomach acid can make her more prone to esphageal cancer later in life.
I know its a tough decision, but if it gives her a better quality if life, then its really a non-issue.
You have my best-- I've been there too.

I had Nissen Laproscopic Fundoplication surgery going on 4 years ago for severe acid reflux. I would do it again even though the recovery was tough. I also had a hiatal hernia and severe asthma which was worsening because of the reflux. To clarify, when the reflux travels up the esophagus and into the mouth, some of it drains down into the trachea, causing coughing and gagging especially when the person is sleeping. I needed to do something drastic to help myself and the NLF was the answer. I don't think I would recommend this for a baby no matter how troubling the baby's symptoms are. As babies grow, issues change drastically and this is something that could completely disappear in a matter of months. My son had projectile vomiting and colic for his first 3 months....by 6 months is was almost gone. For adults with severe reflux with or w/o a hiatal hernia, I suggest you see a qualified surgeon who has lots of experience with fundoplications. Dr. Brett Cohen, Memorial Regional Hospital, Hollywood, FL. is one such doctor. I never regretted getting the surgery.

I don't know what this procedure you mention is. I hope you will get a second medical opinion about this. It seems strange to me that a 17 month old baby has acid reflux. What are you feeding her? Do you keep your house clean? Kids that live in a very dirty house can get asthma from their living conditions. This baby should be taken to an emergency room or to the doctors office right away. I think your baby has a real problem. Please don't take a chance with your baby's health.

i have stated that each and every one the interest docs i understand nonetheless placed on glasses, meaning they have not had Lasik. there is likely a superb reason behind it... bypass on youtube and seek for "Lasik." There are some fairly scary video clips.
