I have dishes made especially for corn on the cob. They are the shape of an ear of corn. A friend of mine(straight, male) says they are trashy and embarassing. Are they or are they just fun?

Since corn on the cob wouldn't be served OTHER than at a very casual meal, the presentation can be as casual and campy as you like. Don't forget the little skewers to stick in each end. Your friend is perhaps from a "trashy" background and overcompensating a little?

The word isn't trashy, it's kitschy. Kitsch can be fun. Your frind is a snob, so don't invite him over for corn on the cob. The rest of us can enjoy your special dishes beacuse they will be just right for holding on to the melted butter on the bottom.

They are fun! Just like those little corn cobs you stick in the ends of the ear to make it easier to eat!

anything we have can be considered trashy by someone else. If you like your "corny" corn dishes then celebrate your difference. heck I'm sure there cute and handier then the butter running all over your plate and your corn rolling everywhere. I currently don't have anything that cute in my kitchen.. my husband gets annoyed enough with all my Starbucks style to-go coffee mugs.

They are just fun. In fact you could say that they display more class than eating from conventional dishes since in high society you often see one item on a specially designed dish, and special utensils for eating some types of foods.

they are effective and useful, how does that compare to your friend? Trashy? embarrasing or fun? He can pick on the dishes and food if he's cooking.

those have been around since at least the 50's, i think they are a little frivolous, but cute!!! i wouldn't buy some but if received as a gift i would use them!! fun!

otherwise if you butter your corn and it melts, it goes all over your plate, with your corn shapped dishes, it is contained.

They are fun. I have plastic cups that have shrimps on them, if people dont like them they dont have to drink out of them
