that's what they mainly eat

They don't. Not everyone that eats tortillas stores them in the fridge. Some people make them fresh everyday. Those tortillas are so good there is usually no left-over tort's. I, on the other hand, buy them 3 dozen at a time, corn and flour alike, and keep them in the fridge. I think it has something to do with the main purpose of the fridge....to preserve my food longer so that I can enjoy it right up to the expiration date or longer. No mention of Mexicans, Hispanics or Latinos in this answer.

My ex's family was Hispanic and they kept tortillas in the fridge and they would reach in, grab one, throw something on it and eat it. They did it all day long. There would be a couple bowls of God knows what sitting on the top shelf next to them, sometimes even fruits or cheeses. They would grab a tortilla, slop on some of the stuff next to it and eat. Their version of fast food I guess. I would catch my boyfriend doing the same thing at his house...when he had food in the house.

because we are mexicans, what would life be for us if we did'nt have tortillas, ( smile ) for me it is the kind of bread, I would rather have, though white bread is ok, but being mexican, the tortillas is something you get raised with, I was raised with them, there great with all kinds of food you should try them, but for real I'm not sure, its just apart of ones life I guess. (good question, it made me laugh some,)

Because thay're smart enough to invent a bread that doesn't get squished coming home from the store? Tortillas should be their own food group!

to slow fungi growth and not get spoiled when it is out in the open or stored outdoors in room temperature.

I put breads and other related products in the refrigerator so it can last longer after it has been opened.
