Hello VH,

The worst food for herpes is peanut butter. If you are really prone to herpes outbreaks, you should avoid nuts (almonds, chestnuts..), chocolate and high arginine foods especially at stressful times. Arginine is an amino acid used by the herpes virus to replicate. You may also want to shift to a healthier diet and get rid of the foods that lower your immune function like sodas (even sugar free), sugar, coffee and black tea, anything containing bleached flour and so forth. You may also want to take multi-vitamin supplements and eat a lot of vegetables. I've created a page called the dietary management of genital herpes and another on lysine. You will find much more info there.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

You can eat anything you want if you have genital herpes. You are not limited in what you can eat. Food doesn't cause outbreaks. Outbreaks are usually caused by stress and a weak immune system.
