Of course I will be there with her. I grew up with dogs and I want the same for her. I am not looking for an adult. I want a puppy thtat way they can grow together. My brother and I had a Lab. With her being the only child I felt that a pet would be good for her.

We got a golden retriever when my youngest son was 3. She is the best dog EVER! We researched on the internet the most gentle dogs and best with kids...yada, yada, yada. Anyway we decided on a golden retreiver and she has been wonderful. My 3 yr old (now 4) "hugs" her too tight and she just sits there, my 7 year old pulls her tail and she will take his hand in her mouth but no pressure. It is like she knows the difference between on purpose and over enthusiastic. She sleeps with my 13 year old and is very gentle when anyone wants to pet her.
I would not get a small dog! We got a small dog before the retreiver and my nerves were gone. With young kids you never know. They can squeeze too tight or step on the dog (on accident of course) and it can seriously injure the dog.

You should wait until the child is older. Small dogs are not good, because they will nip at a child who is hurting them--holding too tight etc. A large dog, although very tolerant of children, may knock your child down in its excitement. Herding dogs tend to herd children. Best to wait.

If you insist on getting a dog, better to get a large, gentle breed, such at Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, or even a Collie. Better to wait a couple years though!!

3 years olds do nt need a dog. Nor are they equipt to deal with or handle a dog. Anytime the dog and the child would be together they would need to be supervised.
At this time your child is not really old enought for a pet.
The rescue I work with will not place dogs in homes with children under 5

a small breed so she can hold it because little girls love to hold things and also when the other dogs get big she might want another dog smaller so she can play with it more and hold it!

but i think a proper dog should be either a Pomeranian, Chihuahua, or any other really small dogs!

Oh yeah! she might want a girl because girls are more playful and boys are harder to potty train!

just some good advice!

3 year old kids are not mature enough for any kind of dog. The dog can hurt the kid and kid can hurt the dog. Not a good idea at this time.

Cheers!

A golden retriever is one of the best dogs for children, or a labrador retriever. They are great with children too.

there is no dog for a three year old. A dog in a home with a three year old is not the THREE YEAR OLD's dog, it is the PARENT's dog. With this in mind, any dog the parents wills work with is fine.
