I know someone who was a vegan because he didn't like the idea of eating anything which used to be alive or came from any animal. He was so unhealthy from it though and realised he had no reason to be like that any more. He still doesn't eat eggs though because he says they are a "chicken period" which I can kind of agree with. So anyway, some people don't like the idea of killing animals or having stuff from an animal. Then there are those who have somehow convinced themselves that it is actually healthier for them. I wish they would realise that it is not. If a vegetarian diet was healthier, why are we designed to be omnivores?
I mean, of course it is everyone's choice and I always make an effort to have something vegetarian if I have a party or anything because I have vegetarian friends. I am quite happy to have that sort of thing. I had loads of fruit for my baby's birthday party so everyone was happy.
Oh and I have to say, I try to get free range chicken and eggs and all the grass-fed meat sort of things.

Do you mean "why are you a vegetarian?" If I were a vegetarian, I would be a vegetarian everywhere, except with crotchety traditional-type people who just can't understand the concept and would be super-offended if I didn't eat their special magical pot roast or whatever.
Ugh, I keep meaning to be a vegetarian. Sometimes I am. Meat has more fat and protein than you need (unless you get the fat-free version, which isn't particularly all-natural.) Meat is also usually raised and slaughtered in disgusting, cruel, inhumane ways and that's where the e. coli and salmonella come from to infest you and your kitchen surfaces. Like take beef--it has e.coli in its digestive tract naturally but when cows are fed grain, they can't digest it and it makes them fatter faster but it also makes them super-sick with extra e. coli and where do you think the e. coli goes when the cows are slaughtered in conventional slaughterhouses? Yuck doesn't really cover it. Cows should be grass-fed and limited to only very small amounts of grain. I try to eat no-hormone, organic meat when possible. And I'm cutting back. I mean, meat does come from farm animals and I don't have any particular quarrel with them. I feel bad for eating meat, and I don't like feeling like a hypocrite but I guess I can only quit one bad habit at a time and now I'm trying to kick caffeine and sugar. Whoops, that's two. Okay, two at a time. But not three. Sigh. I hate confronting things about myself that make me feel guilty. Thanks a lot.

Should your question be why are you a vegetarian?
Some people just don't want to eat anything with a face. Others for health reasons. Me I eat what ever I like, and I like meat, however I eat it in moderation and I prefer fish.

I'm a vegetarian. My reason? well it's much healthier and because I believe that animals have feelings and shouldn't be slaughtered. At first I just became a vegetarian for my own benefit but then I realized that it was for much more than just that. I highly recommend the Vegetarian starter kit provided by PETA.org because it opened my eyes and taught me what all these animals go through and much more.

I actually like eating meat sometimes but you should see how cruelly they treat animals in big factory farms. It is just so horrible I want no part of it. I will only eat meat from animals that are raised with respect and love - as much as you can expect. Check out the PETA website and look for factory farm information.

Where? In Las Vegas!
Our issue with meat came after doing alot of reading after dh had cancer 4 years ago. Neither of us were big meat eaters, so to cut it out wasn't all that hard. Not to mention how much "healthier" we feel not eating meat!

Look at some of the pictures of slaughter houses... lambs and pigs are slaughtered alive, being cut open while they're tied on their backs still trying to clean the wound that cut open their throat...
Chickens killed by a slit to the throat, except that alot of the time the workers are going too fast to make sure it is actually dead before they pluck them and cut off they're feet...
Cows chained to a conveyor belt by one foot, hanging upside down, kicking, while their blood runs out their throat and workers start to pull off their skin...

I am not a strict vegetarian, I also eat fish and seafood. I just prefer lighter foods. I have been told that conditions in chicken slaughtering plants are horrendous, they literally swim in fecal soup and beef are sick most of the time in the cattle slaughtering plants. I just like vegetables and rice and shrimp, in particular. Thanks for asking.
