Basic advice is to ask his doctor. There are medications to help relieve the pressure of panic attacks. He can also try biofeedback. Plenty of resources on the net for that.

I have been a sufferer of panic attacks for over 20 years. They are mostly under control due to the medication I take.

Emphazema is a chronic obstructive lung disease, you can't do much with that problem, anxiety and panic attack's I deal with those myself,I take medication to help control this I take xanax and some clonipin. These help to keep these attack's few and far between.HOPE YOUR husband get's to feeling alot better.I know if his DR.would give him Xanax that REALLY HELPS!!!

well we have to do something about his panic attacks. although emphysema has nothing to do with it, but the panic attacks can make breathing problems worse.
is he having panic attacks because of his disease? try to calm him down and tell him that if he was to take good care of himself, the disease itself will not get worse. (well, it can't be cured -- but don't tell him that). if he's smoking, well he gotta stop -- that's gonna make emphysema worse.
