Pseudomonas is a bacteria that is a gram negative rod (when microbiologist stain it they are gram negative and shape like a rod). They are many species of pseudomonas that exist in nature.

For humans, the main problematic species is Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is considered an opportunistic infection which means it usually only affect really sick people (immunocompromised). I have mainly seen it in people with pneumonia, bladder infection, and wounds but can also infect other places. People with cystic fibrosis can develop p. aeruginosa pneumonias.

In treating these infection, the general rule is treat with 2 antibiotics. They have a tendency to develop resistence to antibiotics fairly quickly.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is found in soil. It is also a bacterium that people often are infected by while in the hospital ("nosocomial infection". People with compromised immune systems can be easily infected by it, as can burn victims, people on respirators and with indwelling urinary catheters. It is also one that people with cystic fibrosis often get. Pseudomonas is dangerous because it is resistant to many antibiotics, including Penicillin. Healthy people hardly ever get Psuedomonas infections.

pseudomonas aeruginosa -- what i believe is this is a gram negative bacteria -- found in WATER
the statements above sound pretty accurate -- although they stated that is found in decomposing soild or whatever. what i know is that it is found in water, especially among hospital settings -- if materials are not properly cleaned and dried, these bacterias live among wet environment and can transfer to the patient, and causes pneumonia.
