Plan on warm to hot weather (depending on where you'll be). But nights in Jerusalem or desert areas can be cold. Not as in "freezing", but a lot more severe than "cool" sometimes. So bring a heavy sweater or lightweight jacket.
Money depends on so many things--where you'll be staying, if your hotel is prepaid, whether you are trying to visit "on the cheap" (eating sandwiches prepared from ingredients you buy in a supermarket, or eating every meal in a 5-star hotel), how many and what kinds of souvenirs you plan to bring back with you, etc. Like a visit to almost any foreign country, you can spend next to nothing, or a small fortune.
If you have a credit card that is valid internationally, you may not have to bring *any* money with you. You may be able to take money out of a local bank on your credit card...but not necessarily. I would definitely suggest you confirm this before you leave home broke.
Definitely bring a camera. If you have a digital, you may want to bring extra memory for it. Again, you *may* be able to use an internet cafe and e-mail the photos to yourself at home (if there's someone there to download your e-mail, or if you have a huge mailbox limit). But you may not want to spend the time. Film is widely available in Israel at relatively reasonable prices, but if you can stock up when it's on sale before your trip, you'll probably save money.
There are still a number of stores where you can barter over the price, especially if you are buying many items and/or very expensive items. Keep that in mind if you are spending any real money.

Israel will be very hot so bring warm clothes. Since this is a trip, don't forget your camera, film, etc. Bring a few books for the bus rides. Israel is a small country so even if you are going down to Eilat, the bus ride won't be more than maybe 4 hours. Israel isn't any different so there isn't anything special you should bring. Always carry your passport with you.
As you know, there can be some violence in Israel, so I recommend that you DONT visit Gaza, the West Bank or any of Israel's neighbors.

Much will be provided for you as this is a birthright trip but you will want money for any extras you may want.
Exchange your currency at the airport when you arrive--it seems to be the best rate.
Remember to only drink bottled water which is sold everywhere. There is the best orange soda in the world there called Miranda--try it :)
Remember to stock up for Shabbat as everything closes down Fri-Sat.
Bring a small travel pack that can be worn around your neck or waist (not a fanny pack)--to carry passport, money, credit cards etc..
You need your passport everywhere you go.
At customs as you arrive you will be given a small piece of paper that looks like a reciept--dont loose it--you need it in order to leave.
Bring all documents of your planned trip, especially if your not traveling in a group. Print out where your staying etc...
Bring a head covering if you plan to visit the Kotel, which I am sure you will.
Bring a supply of any medicines you may take and a letter from your doctor.
Be sure your passport is not close to expiration.
You are in the best trip of your life--something you will never ever forget.

BS"D
do not bring travelers checks!!! you will get a horrible rate changing them, (if the rate is 4.46 you will get 4.34 if you are lucky) august is hot but if you travel in religious areas such as the westren wall, bb, holi sites, mea sharim you (if you are a girl) will need modest clothing such as a skirt, and a top with sleaves. medications, a bathing outfit. flip flops. most everything you can get there you can get here the question is if you will have time. if you are going on a birthright trip you will only need money for gifts or extras, if you are coming alone there are many ways you can save ie: if you want to visit the old city jerusalem there is a free youth hostil called heritage house. much luck

Take warm clothes for the daytime and a jacket for the nights. The holy sites have a dress code...you cannot wear shorts inside some of them. When I went there, we were advised to keep all personal items very close to us because in places like the Arab market around the Via Delorosa, apparently there are a lot of pickpockets...who are very good at it. It also depends on if you're planning on going alone or with a tour group. We went with a tour group and we didn't have any problems with the violence, etc. A tour group isn't going to take you into those areas.

Try to purchase items with Shekels vs. Dollars - you will get a better deal. Almost everyone will take dollars, but the exchange rate varies from store to store.
Isreal is very safe and beautiful. It is very warm in August, so bring a good hat and sunblock and powdered electrolytes - they saved me when I visited the really, really hot desert areas in the Negev.
Have a great time.

The weather is 30+ at this time of the year, so you better wear according clothes. i suggest you to bring a bathing suit and stuff for the sea so you can swim (it is exactly the time!). Make sure you have a camera, and have a gr8 time!
