can you elaborate on ASD? it means a lot of things..

pulmonary hypertension -- sounds like the root is coming from a lung problem. when the lungs are sick, blood backs up from the lungs to the pulmonary artery -- and that is why the pressure in the pulmonary artery (and possibly even the right heart) is high.

if the lung problem is treated correctly -- then expect the hypertension to subside eventually. what is specifically your daughter's condition?

the medications above i believe are merely treating the heart problem -- the heart problem (pulmonary hypertension) is merely the SIDE EFFECT of the underlying problem that should be treated directly.

think of a child with a fever -- most mothers would treat the fever itself, instead of the underlying cause which is infection. you can keep on treating the fever -- but the infection will be there until somebody does something about it.

same with your daughter's case. i believe there is an underlying lung problem that's causing pulmonary hypertension. the doctor should be able to do various tests (or at least prescribe it).

also, i am merely suggesting -- you have to bring her to a doctor to have it diagnosed and treated. otherwise, if not treated fluids may eventually back up in the lung itself and result in pulmonary edema.

Dear maham55,
I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. I'm a big supporter of many different approaches to medical treatment, both traditional and
homeopathic. An up to date and very informative website to look
into is sponsored by the Life Extension Foundation, a non-profit
organization out of Florida that correlates research from all over
the world. Go to lef.org and look up the specific condition(s), the
summary of each disease will include latest research and treatment
plus recommendations for use of proven supplements. You may
also join the foundation to receive additional benefits. I hope this
information is helpful, and I wish you and your daughter well

According to University of Chicago the latest treatment for Pulmonary HypTreatment include a variety of oral and inhaled medicines, as well as an IV pump that delivers medication directly into the bloodstream. Some of these include:
Diuretics to rid your body of extra fluid that puts pressure on your heart
Anticoagulants, which help reduce blood clots
Calcium channel blockers, which are medicines originally developed to treat high blood pressure in the body. However, these drugs can be dangerous for some PH patients, so identifying the proper candidates is key.
Endothelin receptor antagonists, bosentan (Tracleer) and sitaxsentan (Thelin), which help prevent blood vessels from narrowing
Phosphodiesterase inhibitors, such as sildenafil (Revatio), to allow the lungs to produce more of its own natural vasodilators
Iloprost, an inhaled prostacyclin that can relieve shortness of breath
Treprostinil (Remodulin) and epoprostenol (Flolan), two intravenous medicines that open up the blood vessels and help ease symptoms of PH, including chest pain and shortness of breath.

While Pasque et al conducted a study on single lung transplantation on end stage pulmonary hypertension. The conclusion of their study states that single lung transplantation can be performed in patients with end-stage pulmonary vascular disease with reasonable expectations for a relatively low operative mortality; immediate, complete, and durable amelioration of pulmonary hypertension and right ventricular failure; and optimal use of limited donor organ supply.

I am not sure what the most current treatments are, but I can tell you that when my aunt was diagnosed with cardiopulmonary hypertension, her doctor referred her and sent her to the Mayo Clinic. I know they have a website with all kinds of information available. Check it out at http://www.mayoclinic.com I hope this will bring you the help and answers you need. GOOD LUCK to your daughter and your family!!!
