One FAILS (not "fell," BTW) any class by 1-not showing up for the class, 2-not putting in any effort, 3-failing to learn what needs to be learned by the end of the semester, 4-being disruptive in class--keeping other students from learning,5-I'm sure that you can think of more things on your own that would cause someone to flunk a class.
Did your friend assume that taking band would be an "easy A"?
The reason that I ask this is because I take a college level art class, and lots of the students take these courses because they assume that they can just goof off and not have to do any work. And they are WRONG!!!

Having been a music teacher, I can tell you exactly how. Don't practice, play badly, show attitude, miss/skip classes, miss concerts, don't participate. That were big issues for failing band class. I had one student who didn't even pick up the instrument for the whole year. Big time fail!!!

The band class in my school take written tests on famous musicians and types of music. They also have journals that are worth half of their grade... they have to write how they practiced (and how often they practiced). So, if you don't do journals and fail the written tests, there is an F for you!

i was in band for like 4 months. I hated the teacher and I wanted to play more challenging songs. I would have failed if I didn't get out.

1. dont show up to class
2. never practice
3. dont participate/attend
4. Dont show up for the band performances

What instrument? Have her spend the summer practicing. Go back to the basics. That or she needs to pay attention more. :)
