Not only because I am vegetarian I wouldn't wear silk (the worms are boiled alive indeed).
Did you ever see the little Indian children (!) that have to boil the silk worms? They hurt themselves very often and they get sick by working in those factories.
So I would suggest to say humanism before vegetarianism.

Yes, of course you can wear silk. It doesn't hurt the silk worms when they take the silk. That is what they produce. They are like a machine. It doesn't hurt them in the least! So wear lots of silks! Invest in some sheets..lol!

Unfortunately the silk worms are boiled alive to extract the "silk". This kind of cruelty to most vegans is unacceptable.

I am a vegetarian and I wear leather. I am not a vegetarian for the health of the animal. I avoid eating meat and animal products (eggs, dairy) for my own cardiovascular health.
Wearing a leather jacket is not going to raise my cholesterol.
I don't wear silk because I don't like it, but I don't mind of other people do.

I would guess silk would have to be prohibited because the silkworms are killed when they process the silk fibers.
