yes . They are good fried , baked , boiled or barbecued. They can be eaten when they are green, no flavor unless salted or yellow when they ripen. They are the cousin to the banana, but the main difference is you must cook them first in order to eat them. They are more popular in the Caribbean and South American countries. if you like them fried use enough of your favorite corn oil, make sure you cover the bottom of the pan , and the oil must be hot.have the plantain cut ahead of time ,by cutting in half , then cutting them in slices. When you place them in the frying pan 2 -3 minutes on each side or until brown.

Yes, they're delicious. I like mine a little more on the ripe side.

A good dish from El Salvador consists of fried plantains served with refried beans and "crema", which is similar to sour cream, but thinner and a little more sour.

I like them fried when they are really ripe (almost black). My husband is from Nigeria and he often cuts up the the yellow ones (not as ripe) and puts them in stew. Then, they taste like potatoes with a hint of sweetness. Very good. Plantains are very high in iron, which is why they turn reddish when you cut one open and leave it out a while before cooking it. It's rusting!

I went to a Cuban restaurant once, and it was like EVERY SINGLE dish was made with plantains in it! My experience personally was like plantains tasted like cardboard. They'd try to doctor them up by throwing in lots of Caribean seasonings, but basically it was still like eating cardboard that had spices in it.

Oh yes, they are so good fried. I am from the Caribbean so it's basically a part of almost every dish. Plaintain chips is also amazing, but it must be a green plaintain and put some salt on it..hmhmhm

Hi there. We eat them often. My husband is from Guatemala, so it's a common treat. I really liked them fried, with a little bit of sour cream and sugar on the side.
