Yes, diabetes (type 2) is an acquired type of diabetes, often found in older, overweight, inactive people who develop insulin resistance (their bodies don't neutralize the sugar/carbs that they eat because they have eaten too much for the body to be able to handle). However, Type 2 diabetes is being found in younger and younger people these days, which coincides with the obesity epidemic in America. In order to prevent diabetes, keep a healthy weight by eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly.

Things you have control over (exercise, diet) may make you more likely to become diabetic.
But you can't control whether you have a genetic pre-disposition for diabetes.
Put it this way -- if you WANTED to be diabetic ( don't ask me why) there is not 1 or 2 things you could do to guarantee that you would become diabetic. You can only change the odds.

Broadly diabetes is classified as type 1 or type 2.
Type 1 is a failure of the body to produce its own insulin.
This is often seen in childhood and is not self induced.
Type 2 is due to increased insulin resistance and occurs often as a consequence of lifestyle, obesity plays a huge part in that pathogenesis although other factors are also involved.
So yes, you can induce type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 - yes. Watch your diet, excersize, lose weight, take vitamins. Rid of sugar. Replace with stevia. Rid of potatoes and pasta. Replace with Squashes and Quinoa. Take a quality fiber supplement. We don't get enough in our diets.
Type 1 is caused by Immunizations, or an immune malfunction where the pancreas is affected. It IS addressable even though the medical community says its incurable. Must give immune system what it needs to retrain itself to stop attacking vital cells. Do more research on this.

Unlike ashley up there I'm not going to write a freaking ENCYCLOPEDIA!!!...the answer is yes...this country is full of people who don't pay attention to their daily intake of sugar and other crap. So...if you want diabetes follow this recipe
Eat sugar daily
Exercise NEVER
Watch as MUCH tv as possible
-soaps are wonderful, they keep you coming back daily
Forget about fruits and Veggies...those are just empty calories
If you haven't gained 20lbs this month...try harder
and lastly...Make plans to have your fat @$$ pulled out of your house on a fork lift through the hole in the wall that the fire department had to cut to get you out the door!

Not really, but you can certainly increase your chances. And we are only talking about type 2 diabetes. The triggers are obesity, and lack of exercise. But there are many overweight people who do not have the disease. So, there is a genetic component that you can not control.
