In 2000, there were 3,482 deaths as a result of this in the United States, an average of nine people per day.
It is the second leading cause of injury-related death among children under the age of 15.
It's 14 times more likely than a motor vehicle to be involved in the death of a child age 4 and under.
An estimated 5,000 children ages 14 and under are hospitalized due to related incidents from this each year; 15 percent die in the hospital and as many as 20 percent suffer severe, permanent neurological disability.

Wow! I was very wrong. I thought it was natural gas.Had no idea it was water.I will say in a lot of cases it's the parents fault for not watching the kids close enough! There are so many children that die of all kinds of things. I think they need to protect kids way more than they do. To anyone that has lost a child my heart go's out to you.
