Hi guys,

I have moderatelly slow metabolism. I excercise very often, and put a great care on what I eat, but they are not that much effective.

I have some questions about getting fit.

a. is there any other way to increase metabolism, other then the excercises that I am already doing, and popular fitness diets?

I was told once that taking multi-vitamin is effective on increasing metabolism. Is it true? If it is, then is this the only way to increase the metabolism?

b. What is the ideal amount of excercise per a week to be fit? I excercise at least 4 times a week, about 1 hours each. Is it enough?

c. I learned myself that being healthy actually means being attractive. What remedies or vitamins do you recommend to be healthy (therefore, being fit?)?

For back ground information, I am 26 years old Asian male, with history of taking anti-depressent called "Paxil".

Thank you!!!

You need to do a couple of things to speeden up your metabolism.

Firstly, you need to eat 6 small meals a day. This assists in increasing your metabolic rate.

Secondly, you need to drink at least 3 litres of water.

Thirdly, you need to do a combination of weights 3 times a week & cardio 3 sessions a week both sessions should be at least for 1.5 hours a day.

OK, do not follow any fad type diets where you do not eat a particular food group they are so wrong for you. Here is a plan I give to my clients:

If you want to do this it is for life so you need to totally change your way of eating and exercising. This is not a diet rather than a healthy eating plan for life. So no more talking diet cause it means time limit.

Here are the golden rules:
Initially cut down to 1200 (women) - 1500 (men) calories.
Exercise 6 times per week for 1 hours a day. Do three weight sessions and three cardio sessions. No gym involved if you don't have the access.
Don't eat carbs after 4pm, never eat carbs within 2 hours of exercise or within 1 hour of exercise.
Drink 3 litres of water per day. You can have a green tea at the end of the day.
Limit your fruit in take to 2 pieces per day.
Never eat dinner after 6pm.
Adopt of low GI eating plan this is sustainable for life!
Make low fat dairy choices

Follow this menu plan as a suggestion:
Breakfast 7am - 1 cup hot water w lemon
20 minutes later have a bowel of oats w water (no honey) OR
fruit salad w low GI soy yogurt
Snack 10am - pear or apple (both low GI)
Lunch 12.30pm - muligrain sandwich w 50g tuna & salad (no butter)
Snack 3pm - low GI yogurt OR skim berry smoothie (no honey or banana) plenty of ice, 1/2 cup skim milk & 1/4 cup yogurt
Dinner 5.30pm - 120g grilled lean meat/fish/prawns/tofu patties (not fried) w spinach salad & mixed vegies (no whites, carbs) OR 3 egg white/soy omlette with ham, cheese and tomato
Snack - 1 scoop of low cal low fat ice cream (if hungry)

Exercise is must be intense. Refer to www.bodybuilding.com for your weights routine. Never do weights two consecutive days have a cardio day in between.

Cardio needs to include running, go hard up stair wells and cycling. If you have access to a gym include boxing and spin classes as well. You get the most benefits from exercise when your body is totally fatigued and this is when you see changes.

To maintain you can increase calories to 1500 (women) - 1800 (men) and reduce exercise sessions to 3-4 times per week. If weight creeps up again due to holiday period etc.. go back to 1200 (women) - 1500 (men) cal and 6 sessions again.

Good luck it worked for me it can work for anyone.

Yes indeed, you have asked the method other than excercise to increase the metabolism.

You can rest on Fruits, vegetables and juices. That will really increase the Basal Metabolic rate of you. The reason for that is,After you consume fresh juice from fruits and vegetables, it takes only a few minutes for the nutrients to enter your bloodstream, making them available for energy almost instantly. Your body's digestive system does not have to work, leaving energy to do other things, like burn fat! There are numerous other benefits from juicing. Some claim healing of incurable diseases is possible, making this the choice for those who are ill.

Have a nice day.

One of the side effects of Paxil is the inability to lose weight. I was on it for several months and with the continued useage, I continued to gain weight. My doc told me that the weight was better to deal with than the anxiety attacks. However, my present doc put me on B-12 and a multivitamin (One-A-Day Stress formula) and my metobolism increased and I have been able to lose and maintain the weight loss. I do drink a lot of water and am on a diuretic which lessens water retention.

You seem to do the right thing.

Look at your diet... no don't diet but reduce carbs. No more white stuff only whole grain and in moderation.

Breakfast: Oatmeal after a brisk walk.

I think you are in good shape if you can continue being active and you just need to moderate your intake.
