Sunday is special because the founder of the "Roman Catholic Church," the late emperor Constantine, was a pagan, a sun worshiper, and decreed that all Christians must worship on the first day of the week back in 321 A.D.
Most Christians cling to this now because it is convenient. There is no scripture to support keeping the first day of the week holy, honoring a day for the resurrection, keeping the alleged eighth day holy, or even that the "Lord's Day," is the first day of the week. What one would find in the scriptures is that God commanded to keep the seventh-day holy, God himself kept the seventh-day holy, the apostles and early church kept the seventh-day holy, and that the true "Lord's Day" is the Sabbath - the seventh day of the week.
It is not hard to figure out what day is the seventh of each week. The Jews have kept every Sabbath since before the time of Christ, and they are still doing it today. What day do they keep holy? The seventh, the Sabbath, the day we now call Saturday.
"Eat the food you gathered yesterday. Today is a Sabbath, the Lord's day of rest;" (Exodus 16:23 NCV)
"This is what the Lord commanded, because tomorrow is the Sabbath, the Lord's holy day of rest." (Exodus 16:25 NCV)
"but the seventh day is a day of rest to honor the Lord your God." (Exodus 20:10 NCV)
"So the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath day" (Matthew 12:8 NCV)
"So then, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath day." (Mark 2:28 NCV)
"Then Jesus said to the Pharisees, 'The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath day.'" (Luke 6:6 NCV )

Saturday is the True Sabbath Holy Day!
That is why it is important to READ your Bible learn and understand the original laws....... Jesus was a Jew and he kept and recognized all the Jewish laws but He came so that not only the chosen (The Jews) would be saved but the Gentiles. Understanding that it was agreed to accept everyone as they are but ......... as you get knowledge you are expected to change.
IE. I drive the highway as fast or slow as I chose if had not speed signs..... the BIBLE is your speed sign for guide it directs, protects, and guides you. Like driving you can ignore the speed signs along the road and you may have to deal with the consequences maybe a cop or an accident. That is how life is also.
Actually there are several Christians and some never changed the Sabbath........ie. Messianic and Seventh Day Adventist.
Remember religion are man-made it is something like playing telephone by time it gets to you you have heard some washed out version with someone personal spin on it.
Several Christians are slowly adding Saturday worship to their service because they are aware that the day was changed by I believe Caesar Augustine who originally was a pagan worshiper who was converted by the cross wound he received during a war. He kept several practices of his Pagan worship and incorporated them into a world know Christian religion.
Then some Christians agreed to keep Sunday as Sabbath because it is the day Jesus was to have rose from the cross.

Originally, saturday was also a holy day for the early christians, but as Christianiy became more of an individual religion, Sunday was chosen to break from Judaism and distinguish itself as completely new religion. The explanation being that Jesus was resurrected on a Sunday. Some evangelical Christians have returned to Saturday as the 7th day.

Well, to restate it slightly for purposes of clarification, Saturday (sundown Friday to sundown Saturday) is the sabbath for Jews because that is the way God set it up in the Mosaic Law Covenant (not because of the seventh day after creation). Sunday is the sabbath for many professed Christians because Constantine set it up that way in his edict in 321 C.E. As for the Christian Greek scriptures (the New Testament) it sets aside no day at all as sacred. Christians are under no obligation to observe a weekly sabbath.

The "Sabbath" from "shavat" = "a stopping" (we cease from our regular activities and worship God)
1. The Sabbath used to be on Saturday (it commemerated the Creation and God resting on the 7th day)
2. It also was to commemerate the delverance of Israel from Egypt (when Moses led them away from the army of the Egyptians) (*SLAVES cannot take a day off - they were no longer slaves)
3. And today it is on Sunday to commemerate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ - "The Son of God". He was crucified, died and was buried and arose on the third day.
(Some people will do the math and say wait...Fri. He was crucified and to Sun = only 2 days...but that is just the way they counted days then. Like today in music a "third" is only 2 notes away.)

Yes, it's true that the Sabbath begins for Jews at Sundown on Friday, and ends at sundown on Saturday, because God "rested" on the 7th day, which was Saturday. For Christians, the Sabbath is celebrated on Sunday because a "new" Sabbath was created when Jesus rose from the dead on ... Sunday (Easter). Since the resurrection is one part (and a big part) of the undeniable Truth (that Jesus is Lord), we celebrate this Truth every Sunday, on the day of His resurrection ... Sunday!
So, in keeping with the 10 commandments (Judaism), and keeping the sabbath holy, we honor Jesus on this day instead of on Saturday. An interesting note is that, in keeping with the rule of the Sabbath, it actually begins on Sundown on Saturday, and continues through Sunday until Sundown, and ends there.

It's Judaism. And it's Sunday because Christians believe this is the beginning of the week, the last being Saturday - the original day of rest!

The fact that it is spelt SUN day not SON day may give a clue.
In fact, the Romans before Christianity were pagans and one of their gods was mithras, the sun god, who was worshipped on Sunday.
The 25th December celebration was also a time when, in the middle of winter, the pagans would worship and sacrifice for the sun god out of fear that if they did not, Spring would not come.
These traditions were incorporated into Christianity when it came, meaning that sadly the original teachings of Jesus are somewhat lost in time.

To expand on a previous answer: Sunday is special because Jesus returned from the dead on Sunday morning - the early hours of the first morning, on the first day of the week - It seemed fitting that we worship God on Sunday to remember that Jesus came with a message of love, peace and eternal life with the forgiveness of sin

Well my Friend it's the day our Savior Jesus Christ rose from the dead
.....and also on that the day 2000 years ago we were given our Salvation...
Instead of animal sacrifice to God for forgiveness God sacrifice His Own Son so that everyone is forgiven and granted Eternal Life...
ONLY IF you want to be part of these offering then you you'll know for sure you are saved...
So to conclude, Sunday is not special... what has happen on that Sunday was and is still very SPECIAL!!!
