I was downtown the other day and a lady told me if I didn't give my heart to Jesus I would go to hell. Then she took me to the pastor (who was standing just a few steps away) and I was kind of peer pressured into pray and "giving my heart to Jesus". Then he wanted my phone number to make sure I was going to church. I had enough at that point and politely ended the conversation but why do people impose their beliefs on others?

Hey dont worry...
* - you wont be going to hell
* - you dont need the church to discover your spiritually and connetion to God
* - God is everything, all that we see, hear, think, do and are, so you are already connected
Many people are living in fear - a teaching given for the purposes of the teacher being in a place of control. People impose their beliefs becasue they are convinced that they are right - it's just that so often they lack the grace to allow others to be different - wheras you have already accepted that! You dont need them, you are doing just fine on your own!

Relational evangelism, in my opinion, is much better than street evangelism. You shouldn't feel forced to accept Jesus, it should be something you want to do. And I have also noticed that the "fire and brimstone" approach also does not work. Christians should be spreading the love of Jesus. While it is important to know where your sin ultimately leads you, there is SO much more.
What they really should have told you is: that yes sin leads to hell, but since Jesus died on the cross, taking your punishment on His shoulders you can be forgiven if you ask. He is holding out a free gift to all who are willing to accept, salvation.
I hope you weren't detered by one person's approach to evangalism. If you only knew how freeing it is to be forgiven, and to experience the unconditional love of your Savior. I hope you do, it will change your life forever.
God Bless.

It is one of my pet hates people trying to impose their beliefs on others, imagine what a great place the world would be if everyone just kept it to themselves and got on with it quietly LOL.
next time keep walking!

just think of some crazy guy, telling you on the street that there is going to be this huge freak off flood.. and it's going to kill everyone, including you, unless you join him in his boat full of animals... what do you say? this guy is just nuts right? .. a hopeless bastard pushing his religion on you... unless of course he really did get a message from god.. then he's just trying to save you.. it's easy to point at them and say you're an annoying nut bastard.. but if he really got a message from god... then do you blame him for trying? .. don't get me wrong.. i think they're annoying nuts too..

Because they have become tyrants who think that only they know the truth...fortunately others of us don't agree and are there as a check on the religious megalomania.
