(or is this an act of faith like every other religion??)

I see what you're trying to do here. You're still angry at yahoo for abandoning you for one day, and now you wanna blow up the religious section. Because that would happen if God was disproven :)

It's impossible by the way, to disprove something. You already know that, i assume. Just like i can't disprove aliens, the real tweety or winnie the pooh.

What i really don't understand is that people even wanna disprove God. It seems like the most useless thing to do, for the simple reason that it's impossible. We all have faith, some have faith there is a God, some have faith there isn't, some have faith in something in between.

We all know practically nothing. To some that is scary, to me it's a big comfort. If there is an afterlife, i will see it in the afterlife.

Your question is actually what is the journey of life. How long can a person have faith, hold the faith and stick to the faith? I have no idea, i know that everyday i doubt if there is a God. For now i chose not to believe in the biblical God, for the reason that it doesn't make sense to me. It will make sense to others, not to me. Maybe there is another form of God, i also am not sure.

My biggest guess is: after we die we might be in for a huge surprise, because we were probably all wrong.

Somebody recently asked a similar question... Wait, I think it was you :)

I'll repeat the main idea of what I answered there. I believe it is possible to prove that the God as written about in the Torah, Bible and Qur'an does not exist. A lot of the things claimed to have been done by God did not happen and cannot have happened. A lot of the claims made by God or on behalf of God can be shown to be lies (for example the idea that prayers will be answered) and a rational examination of the holy books just show too many gaps, holes, inconsistencies and illogic to be taken seriously. The proofs are long and detailed.

However, the thing about 'God' is that it can just change form to meet new challenges. If you believe in a God who does not do anything in day-to-day life and who has no impact in our lives and who is not in any way observable, then I can't prove to you that your God doesn't exist. Of course, I would then ask what the point is in believing in such a god?

It's linked to a lot on Y!A so you've probably seen it before, but the website http://www.whywontgodhealamputees.com/ does do a pretty good job of rubbishing the Judeo-Christian-Muslim God. I think that's about as far as proof can go.

As far as an act of faith is concerned: I have never been to Atlantis. I technically cannot be sure that it doesn't exist. However, I can merely take it on faith that it does or doesn't (or did or didn't) exist, or I can use Google Earth and all of the latest cartographic technology and sub-oceanic research. An Atlantis believer can still say, 'Yes, but maybe you just haven't found it yet.' In fact, to a true Atlantis believer, there will never be enough evidence to conclusively say 'It doesn't exist.' Realistically speaking, though, most of us will accept all of the available evidence as not being 100% conclusive but as being 'good enough'. Maybe neither the Atlantis disbeliever nor the Atlantis believer have 'conclusive proof', but I think most people would agree that the Atlantis disbeliever has arrived at his decision in a practical way and is thus more worthy of acceptance.

Actually, the legal system does this all the time. If you are looking for absolute proofs, then you can never be sure of anything with certainty. Sometimes '99% sure' is the best we can get.

No, I cannot prove to you that a God does not exist. Atheism (the belief that God does not exist) is an act of faith like every other religion. It's a good point.

If God was to appear out of the clouds and on CNN tomorrow, then all the believers could say 'Ah, told you so...'. Atheists could yet reject this God as an illusion in a Godless universe.

Critical thought might thus regard agnosticism (the view that claims regarding the existence of God can neither be proved or disproved) as a fundamental human condition.

As I write this I will also acknowledge that I have some kind of faith within me that is very difficult to put into words or conceptualise. I think that the issue of belief in God is a shallow and superficial one. Most of us live and act in remarkably similar ways; we stick to the law and we adhere to similar moral codes.

And those moral codes, they ain't all good.

Can you prove that He does? Scientifically speaking, the proof of burden is on the religion, not the other way around. I think it would be rather difficult to prove a thing that is invisible, undetectable, and generally nonresponsive.

BUT - the whole point of religion is faith without proof. If you believe in any god(s), there is usually no NEED for proof.

Perhaps the reason people do not believe, is because that trying
to believe in something you have never seen or had contact with
is hard to grasp. The works of God are what have been passed on by generations or written in books and years ago things got
exaggerated and out of hand,as you were burnt at the stake
as a witch if you appeared too clever. The main thing to bear in mind is that the christian way of life is a good standard way to try
and live as their is too much hate, jealousy and crime in the world. It sometimes make you wonder, if their is a God, why is the world in such a state ie. terrorism, starvation and global disasters

Nope I cant, I just dont see any evidence for their being a God. Lets say I believe that there is an invisible dragon behind the moon that kills random people. Would you believe me? What if I wrote a book that said it was the truth? What if I had 1 billion other people believe it as well as billions more throughout history? What if I created countries based on my invisible dragon beliefs, would you believe it then?

There is no evidence for or against a God, science does not deal in the supernatural so there will never be evidence of a God. Even if God himself came and visited me in person I wouldnt believe.

Have you just been watching Miracle on 34th street or something?

You know where the lawyer attempts to prove Santa claus doesnt exist? Well straight back at you.

I am God, and I'm getting really fed up of people saying I had a son. I didn't and It's a lie.

Can you prove I'm not your God?

I can't prove anything. But I am not making any assumptions over the basis of a hypothesis. The difference between believers and non-believers is that believers count on something that they can't prove. We don't count on something we can't prove, because we only count on real evidence. It would be different if we counted on the NON-existence of that thing and made a life on the CERTAINTY that there is no god. But that is not the case. Not for most non-believers, anyway.

I hope I was clear.

I do believe in God, but I can prove to you he doesn't exsist. See in reasearching all religions and science I have kept up pretty well on the debates. All I would have to do is show you only 1 side. For example: back in ancient times there was alot of religious beliefs, but I haven't seen to much in the Jewish, Muslem, or any other belief that was in those times. Oh, they were there, but it was hidden.

Date back Greek mythology, when it was actually created. Then date back the Jews. You will see Greek Mythology can be dated back further.

Easy as pie if you do not have a relationship with God...Now convincing someone who knows someone that the someone they know doesn't exist that would be difficult even if you were schizophrenic...however if you are sane the difficulty would become impossible how could I convince you that you have no father while your father is present with you....It would make you doubt my sanity....now this cannot be said of all religions or with all people many people are easily decieved because there faith is weak...but the fact remains knowing is knowing simply claiming faith means little.
