Located north of Los Angeles in the Antelope Valley at the former Marine Corp Air station, is the Mojave airplane storage facility. Mojave has the ideal conditions required for long term Airline storage, including an extremely dry climate and a hard ground ideal for parking aircraft. Over 250 airliners are stored in the desert here, a significant increase over the last couple years, due to the recent slowdown in air travel.

All of the above answers are correct. It is very easy to find dozens upon dozens of retired military and commercial aircraft at those locations. However, sometimes all it takes is a trip out to your local airport and you can find several abandoned general aviation planes parked on the ramp. Airplane boneyards...

Most are in Arizona and California deserts. The dry weather keeps the planes from rusting. The US military has its facility ARAMARC at Davis Monathan AFB in AZ.
