Power transistors are more or less like rugged BJT transistors. They are controlled by a base current and can usually withstand a relatively large amount of collector-to-emitter current.

A close relative to the power transistor is the IGBT (insulated-gate bipolar transistor). It is basically the power electronics equivalent of a MOSFET, since it has an insulated gate that is controlled by a voltage rather than a current.

Both of these transistor types are used commonly in high power switching applications such as motor drives or power supplies.

1.Power transistors are transistors that are used in high-power amplifiers and power supplies.
2.Power transistors are suited for applications where a lot of power is being used- current and voltage.
3.The collector of the transistor is connected to a metal base that acts as a heat sink to dissipate excess power.
4.Typical power ratings range from around 10 to 300 W, with frequency ratings from about 1 to 100 MHz. 5.Maximum Ic values range between 1 to 100 A.
6.Power transistors come in npn, pnp, and Darlington (npn or pnp) forms.

If you know the type or mfg. number of the transistor, you can look up the specs. at this link.

which one. there are many types and you can specify what characteristics you need, look it up in parts suppliers for electronics or a devices manual, good luck
