I don't have much of a structure, I just choose a book, and read it. I have all these reading plans, but I'd rather just read a book fully.
I am reading Psalms now, and I just finished reading Matthew and most of Mark. I used to just read verses.

gratvol- I don't read it like a story book. Where on earth did you get that idea? It is the Word of God.

I'm not talking about bible study, I'm talking about just personal reading. When I read daily, I'm not doing in depth study, I'm just reading, taking in the message, and enjoying the wonderful word of God!

I do Bible study differently than my dailly reading. I study personally with a study bible, with a study guide and with christian friends.( and with people from the church). I also go to Bible study meetings.

that's really good. You sound like what I do. I try to personalize the epistles of Paul and I like to read a few chapters of psalms a day. I also love to meditate on a verse every night when I go to bed. i have the best nights sleep. just enjoy the bible and read it the way you like to read it, the Holy Spirit teaches you what you need to learn when you need to learn it. That way you will keep on reading the Word of God and it won't be a tedious task. Some people like to study study study but if you read a page and make it yours and follow it then you are doing what God intended for you to do with His love letter to you the Bible

You GOT to have a study guide. The Bible's not even in chronological order you know (you can buy ones that are), you
absolutely must have a concordance (preferably Strong's), but
the best, absolute gem study guide I found is a little phamplet
called, simply enough, "How to Study Your Bible", it's just a little
booklet, but brilliant. Comes from an organization called Grace
to You- you'll probably find them on the net, they send these
out free. They will answer (this little booklet will) answer all
of the above and then some. So glad you asked, most people
don't ever think about this- one reason there is so much
misunderstanding and disbelief. The Bible is a relatively
complex book- yet it has survived, just like it was intended to.
People will do "prooftexting"- taking something out of context
to try and disprove you or your faith, or totally misinterpret
the translation (which is why a concordance is so important)
Take the verse "thou shalt not kill" Peole have been twisting
that one around forever. They'll say "well, that means you can't fight in a war or go in the army", all kinds of stuff. What it
really means, translated properly from the Aramaic, is "thou
shalt not murder".....big, huge, difference. Biblically speaking,
if you're attacked, you have every right to kill- though also
Biblically speaking, you should just try and repel that person,
not necessarily kill them. And so on and so on.
If you read a Chapter a day, usually you'll be done in a year.
Like any book, I'd start at the beginning, read it through (yeah,
evan the who begat whom stuff) thoroughly, THEN I would
go hopping around, but you can do some of that now, like
Psalms and so on, since they're awesomely inspiring. Just
get that little guide.
And don't forget, you've read the most important part already,
John 3:16, and that, my dear, is what it's all about.
God bless you (and He will) for asking this question.

There's different ways to read the bible.
1. Start at the beginning of the Old Testament or the New Testament & read it all the way thru.
2. Study it by subject matter. You can look up all the places in the bible talks about a certain subject you want to understand better.
3. When you study have a place to study & a set time every day.. Also pray & meditate about what you have read. Ask God to help you understand. You'll get more out of it if you do this on a set schedule whenever possible!

I read the bible from cover to cover and I have to say the best insperation happens when you don't plan. I do suggest that you read all the books of the bible though so that you know what is written. You'll get the meaning later while you read at a later time. After all, I have gotten several meanings of the same verse. Depends on what truth you are looking for.

The Bible is usually very difficult to read through. I only believe that because it doesn't read like a novel, but a book of rules and a compilation of a book of many stories (many of them being contradicting to other parts of the book.
I would figure that you choose a section, and complete it only depending on exactly what kind of area you are looking for.
Also, though many people believe the Bible to be absolute fact, it is also important that when reading you know the difference between fiction, exaggeration, and historical accounts. Many parts of the book are meant to be interpreted in different ways, and are also meant to be taken metaphorically rather than literally.

Reading Bible is is different than reading any other book. Having a structure won't affect on your reading but it will be good if you have it. You have to think that from which book you are gaining. From Bile or from any other ?, Just try the specific structure while reading the Bible and experience the POWER in it.

If you are keeping track of what you have read, then you will read the whole Bible in time just as if you were following a structured reading plan. I tried the reading plan, but if you miss one of the readings, then you get behind for the daily reading lesson. I just skip around now. God's blessings on your Bible reading.

I like random reading of the Bible but I do find that whatever my situation.....whatever Book I am reading just seems to fit.....however, I have also discovered that the prophecies of the Old Testament are revealed in the New Testament....so finding the source and the outcome is a great exercise.

I word search the Bible for my own amusement to see what comes up in correlation...its cool and you should try it. Go to www.biblegateway.com and using ONLY the KJV of the bible enter words like Sabbath, tythe, laws, commandments, children, babes, infants and etc...whatever you are curious about and see what verses will list in correlation to that word..you will soon notice that they all co-relate and no contradictory ideas occur in scripture. The last study I had done was on hell and death...I searched for words like hell, hades, dead, death, sleep, rest, destroy, destruction, perrish, and etc...come to find out...people don't actually (the lost or unsaved) go to a hell of burning flames except to be destroyed..they are not made to exist and suffer there for eternity. As well I discovered in another study that death is a sleep...we don't each have our eternal immortal "spirit"..the term soul is used to refer a person as a unique being and when you die..you lay dead in the ground until resurrection for judgement to either live for eternity or die in condemnation and be destroyed...The second death. Its also a neat way to find scripture phrases that you've heard but can't remember what book, chapter or verse..so you enter keywords or the phrase and odds are it will pop up. I switch to and from The NIV and the KJV but I mostly stick with the KJV of the Bible for accuracy in word translations...at night time before bed..I read my Bible as a book. Good luck in your study...love in Christ, ~J~ <><
