Nyquil is a medication for people who have cold or flu like symptoms, and should not be used for anything but those purposes. If you want to get to sleep, talk to your Doctor about medications that are prescribed for sleep. PEACE, TJ

Avoid taking Nyquil for the ingredients not needed. The 'sleep' agent in Nyquil is doxylamine succinate. This can be bought alone (32 tablets for around $4.50) @ Wal-Mart and is quite effective. Studies have shown it to be as, or more effective than some barbituates. Have been using it near nightly for almost a year. Most likely Nyquil would also contain pseudoephidrine and dextromethorphan, both of which will reduce the likelihood of sleep. Maybe tylenol as well. Not good stuff for mind, liver or sleep.

It might be habit forming... In fact it is! ; )
I think the best way to make yourself tired is to make yourself (body and soul) tired. Throughout the day, try to do some activities that use your mind, or do some light exercise. And at night when you can't get to sleep, get up from you bed and do something else for a while. It is a fact that just lying there won't help you to slumber, but in the back of your mind it tells your body "this is making me feel uneasy, I can't sleep just laying in bed" Eventually you won't be able to. Definitely don't watch TV. It is mind stimulating, and down the road you'll end up like my relatives who can only sleep if there is something making noise. Your mind won't be able to rest that way, and you'll be more tired in the morning. (which can lead to insomnia)

I'd say NO! I understand if you need something immediately, sending you to the store would not help.
There are prescription sleep aids and natural sleep aids.
Remember after Thanksgiving turkey (if you are in USA), everyone wants to nap. There is a chemical in turkey, and in various other foods that makes you sleepy. If you snack on cheese and crackers (be careful of those crumbs in the bed...), that might make you sleepy.
I have found that to quiet the questioning mind, turn on the television, close my eyes, and I am off...

How old are you? seriously, because I wouldn't say yes to a 10 - 14 year old. (Not to dis you if you're older than that!) but if you're older and you recognize you're taking it as a sleep aid, then yes, my best sleep ever , ever is a nyquil sleep!

Dear friend,
I recommend that you use Benadril. You can purchase this over-the-counter. It is normally used for allergies, hives etc., but can also be used as a sleep inhibitor.

Yes, you can use it. It will help you sleep. But, you should do so all the time because it can be additive.
