Because there are people out there who have enough money to pay for speech (or the lack of)... and once people start paying for speech its not free.

Because we are in a world of hypocrites, take a look around you, people only believe in their own free speech. Not that of others.

Also because of the distinction between free speech and intimidation. Consider this example;

Somebody on the other side of the street is shouting, "You are a wanker! You are a wanker!" over and over again.
Ok, you think, free speech and all that.
This person then crosses the street walks over to the bench you are sitting on puts his face three inches from your and continues to shout "You are a wanker! You are a wanker!"

At what point do you react, at some point you have to object to his free speech and therefore deny him free speech.

If anybody thinks that isn't the case then post a photo of your face take to sitting on benches and I'm sure somebody will help you test the theory.

Some places in the world do value free speech, others do not. It depends where in the world you are, as to how precious free speech is.

Because free speech is dangerous to politicians ,big business & the religeous mafia.They are afraid the people will learn the truth about their lies & corruption.That's why 'Whistle-blowers' are fired,discredited,& threatend The Media depends on advertising to make their profits so they are not going to bite the hand that feeds them.

We! are no longer in a country that values free speech, at least not anymore. We have fought world wars to maintain hard won freedoms. Now, however, they are under attack from a left wing/totalitarian government, underpinned by the EU and it's ridiculous Human Rights' Act.

If you even mention the word "immigration" you are a racist. Childish, I know, but seemingly effective. It is interesting that "left wingers" ( I know, it is an umbrella term these days, that tends to include- communists, PC brigade, europhiles, liberals, feminists, etc ) present themselves as holding the "middle Ground" in politics, and that, anyone who does not accept their agenda, is villified, and regarded as "right wing". In reality, they don't hold the middle ground at all, they have removed the middle ground from politics altogether, because they tend to describe anyone who doesn't agree with them as, "right Wing". Excuse me, but since when did being patriotic qualify one as "right wing"?

I know that your question refers to the 'world', but there have always been countries controlled by 'totalitarian regimes' of both the left, and the extreme right.

My concern for us, is that, whilst there have been successes in spreading democracy throughout the world, we ourselves, find that our freedoms are being slowly eroded by our move toward Europe, political correctness, immigration, endless state nannying, feminism etc.

Some do, some dont allow (value) free speech. I would say there is more "value" to free speech in places where it is not allowed - thats why it aint allowed cos ppl are scared to allow it. Fuk the muslimes, yes slimes I say, fuk em.

Why are we not in a world that values free speech?
--------------------------------------------------------------

Free speech "a la west" means you are free to talk what ever we agree on .
BUT try to say something we do not, then you are a Muslim terrorist and perhaps Jehadi, and we will finish you off,just wait for it, we are watching you..
