First it depends on where you're moving to. If you want your African Grey to come with you, you'll have to choose a state that permits the entrance of the African Grey Parrots. I live in Western Australia, and I know that the law doesn't allow the African Grey into the state unless it's for educational or zoological purposes. and I'm 99% sure that there's no AG in existence here in Western Australia. Check with the state that you're planning to move to to see if it's permitted to entry into the state.
I've found the following website, you might find it useful.
This one is just a general one about importing and exporting birds into and out of Australia.
http://www.deh.gov.au/biodiversity/publications/trade-use/factsheets/pet-birds.html
This one (draft only I think) is one more specific to your need. Importing an African Grey.
http://www.deh.gov.au/biodiversity/trade-use/invitecomment/pubs/african-grey-parrot-congo.pdf
Good luck with it.

Why do not you ask for a smaller poultry it fairly is greater intermediate? An African gray is an excellent leap from a Cockatiel. i'm not asserting which you're actually not arranged for the duty, yet being the right age to circulate on Yahoo! solutions, there is probable going to be a protracted quantity of time the place your mom and father will ought to safeguard this poultry. i understand i might individually have the skill to look after an African gray, yet i'm 17, and that i does not have confidence my mom and father to safeguard this way of complicated animal whilst i'm in college. African Greys can stay for around 70 years, so i does not get one till i became settled down in existence, in any different case i might constantly ought to difficulty approximately the place he's going to circulate. possibly ask for a poultry that has the character of a larger poultry, yet has the existence expectancy and care point of a smaller poultry. A Conure's incredibly center-floor in terms of this. That way, you will not ought to difficulty approximately him which contain your mom and father, or difficulty approximately the place he will circulate once you're 40 and confirm to circulate. Your dad might additionally be greater prepared to comply with a poultry that may not as lots artwork as a grey.

you can take your bird as long as you get a certificate from your vets saying that he has had done all that needs to be done, you will have to ask your vet about that, but we are taking our dogs and cat out to Cyprus and the quarantine time there now is 28days its not as bad as it used to be.
And also look into the cost because you might have to start saving it is £750 to take each of my animals out there, so going to OZ it may be a bit more. And your quite right he is part of the family all pets are or should be, wish you all the best out there.

Hmm... Australia has extremely tough quarantine laws and I would think you'll either have to have him quarantined for six months or so or you may not be allowed to bring him at all. Check with the embassy in London. (I'm Australian.)

You have to have your pet go through quarantine prosedures before he/she can get to go. I did the same thing when I brought my little dog with me from Australia, it's quite easy, visit the website for DEFRA below to get all your answers. Good luck.
