if your religious at all, pray.... ask GOD to watch over your father, and your family, and once you put the problem in his hands you should feel safer, and death will be the last thing on your mind

This may sound silly, but TRUST ME, it works!!

focus on your breathing. hold your breath in, breath out, and hold your breath out. Think about a blue mist surrounding you. Then, imagine you are at the top floor of a mall. Everything on the floor is Red. Imagine a distict "red" smell (whatever comes to your mind.) Then go down to the next floor, which is Orange (the second color of the rainbow.) Go through the same process. Finally, when you get to the bottom, imagine yourself walking across woods and crossing a stream. Imagine yourself resting by a tree. By the time you finish, you WILL be asleep.

make sure you get some exercise. Also don't get into your bed if you are just going to stew and stay awake. Go read a book in a chair or whatever, don't get into the bed until you are really ready to go to sleep. Also, I had insomnia in college and I used Melatonin.

just go to sleep honey, there are no monsters and once you have a good nights sleep all will be behind you, if you worry or are on the computer too much before bedtime, your brain will not shutdown and you will dream bad dreams, so try to not think and clear your mind before bedtime!

I have insomnia, so I'm in the same boat. try reading, or nyquil, or both.
