He runs around with it in his mouth and drops it to bat it around and hiss and growl. I am not sure if it is directed at the mouse or due to possessiveness.

I've had a few cats and none of them have done this, but this is the first male I have owned.

I've never seen my boys hiss at a toy before. there are occations when I'm playing with a string toy with them that if they have it in their mouth they will start to growl.

Only get concerned if the mouse hisses back.

My slutty cat has had 2 litters of kittens this year.. mostly male. Ya.. nothing to worry about.. just be careful when they get older... with too many cats around they become teritorial.. and spray all over your house.. we're still finding new spots of their smell, and the males have been gone for months.. its horrible.

Aren't they cute? That's why they're called animals.....it's just born in them (programmed)to survive. Each animal has developed certain traits that allow their species to continue on and that is what cats do. Give him 1 year and he'll be a couch potato. The females seem to be more of the hunters, in my experience. (They'll bring their trophy home to you to show you how to hunt too.... what good mommies)Have fun with puddy tat.

That is normal. Unless he is hissing at growling at everything he plays with then you may have a problem.

this sort of behaviour can have serious effects later in life.
it needs to learn to share for if it doesn't when it grows and goes out into the world it will find it hard to fit in.

No, it is just developing its fighting and hunting skills. I have had full grown cats do the samething, its natural.
