The only thing i can add is make sure you have enough light in the room (or daylight hours left) to complete the task.
Also get a nice sturdy ladder to work from and have a helping hand available as some of those units can be very heavy.

if you have never done this before then i suggest you get a book on electrical wiring so at least you will undestand where the wires go as if your house has ceiling roses then there will be more than three wires for you to worry about you may also have to add some wood braceing if you have a weak ceiling ie lathe and plaster
you may have to remove the ceiling rose and fit a juntion box in the loft space to accomadate the wiring or extra connectors it depends on the fitting you have and your house wiring
a good book is ELECTRIC WIRING Domestic by B. SCADDAN by newnes isbn 0-7506-2058-7

first you shutoff your power. if there is an existing box in the ceiling attach the plate to a joist. assemble the downrod and canopy on a workbench. then wire the fan temporarily hang the fan from the mounting ring. then attach the canopy to mounting plate. attach the blades. wire the light kit . then wire the switch. make sure power is off to switch.
