if too hot, panting is a definite sign. also, a kind of restlessness. if too cold, obvious trembling is a sign.
these are involuntary reactions. also, the puppy will seek some warm spot with litter-mates or under its human-mates!
My dog seems to look at me with wide eyes that seem to be saying "do something Mom!"

Golly, jeez, that's a tough one. What size is your dog? How old is your dog? What breed is your dog? What part of the country do you live in? Is it outside or inside? Is it's nose wet and cold? Lot's of things will determine the answer. I've had small dogs that shook from nerves and panted at the same time. I suggest askin' your vet. They can teach you what to look for. I have a furry dog in the south that lays on the floor vent in the summer and a Yorkie that sleeps under 3 blankets. At the same time of year. Go figure. Good luck!

Puppies often huddle together when they are cold. Also you can put your finger in their mouth. If its cold they need to be warmed up pronto!!!!!! And they will stretch out and their little sides will heave because they are puffing. Also their tongue will hang out.
