The BEST are not web sites but books. If you are interested in woody landscape plants, then the 'bible' is Michael Dirr's Manual of Woody Plants.

The most complete and accurate book on plants is Hortus Third. It's very technical with few pictures, and hard to find in a library (it will run you about $200 to buy).

I used to be a technical writer for horticulture so I am very familiar with what's accurate and inaccurate. There are alot of inaccuracies on most all hort. web sites. At best, use a state university website.

Also look for web sites that rely on botanical names, not common names. Common names are different for the same plant, depending on where you live in the country (US) or world. Once you have the botanical name, you can then look up the common name, if it makes you more comfortable.
