Having a bit of soup in the bottom of the bowl when you are finished is proper etiquette. Never scrape the bottom of the bowl, never tip the bowl, never lift the bowl, never ever, ever, ever lift the bowl to your mouth. Most soup spoons are flattened so you can get the most from the bowl, but do not move the bowl from the table. If your soup comes in a cup or a mug, or a tallish type of bowl, (such as in Chinese restaurants) where a spoon is not supplied or it is expected that you sip the broth, use the handle and steady the cup with your other hand. Lift it to your lips, never bring your head down to the cup, tilt it slightly taking small sips to prevent burning, being cautious not to slurp. Anything thicker than a broth should be eaten with a spoon only regardless of the container it is presented in.

There 2 ways...1: use a spoon and fill it 3quarters way and drink it from your spoon...2: use both hands and tip the bowl down on your mouth and drink it like a glass of milk...Just depend on the way your house hold was told...

You should spoon away from you. In other words, instead of dipping your spoon in the bowl and scooping towards your mouth, you should scoop outward. That way you have less dribble from the spoon. Also don't hover over your bowl, keep your posture in mind. Don't scrape the bottom of the bowl. Never blow your food!

use a spoon, and spoon across the top of the soup away from you, so any drips fall into the bowl, and not onto the table or your clothes.

oriental people just cup their hands under the bowl and go ahead and drink it...it's the best way to drink soup, i think...it's pretty relaxed, too

My grandmother taught me to tip the bowl away from you, and dip the spoon in. And don't slurp it off the spoon.

It depends. If it's one of those soup cups, you can use it like a regular cup, otherwise you use a soup spoon.
