Rule #1. Never say: "You're a nice/great guy but"...
That's probably the worst answer he could recieve. if you are going to compliment him mention a good quality that you like about him. Be specific.
Rule #2. Don't lie: Say what you feel and look him in the eye.
Rule #3. After the aukwardness of letting him down, stay friends with him. Talk to him every once in a while to assure him that you don't think he's a complete idiot for even approaching you. This should at least help ease the tension....

It's very nice that you care about whether you hurt him or not.
However, being rejected always hurts. Just say that he's attractive and nice, but there's no click.
And if you feel guilty, remember that it is better to hurt him a bit now, because if you keep seeing him, you will waste your time and hurt him a lot more later on when you DO break up with him.

first, if the guy really likes you then anything you will say is going to hurt him . just remember that the worse self esteem shooter is being rejected. Just try to explain to him how you feel about him in a gentle way dont do anything that will lead him on. Also let him know that no matter what you will be there for him as a friend.

I think the best way is to me honest with him...Tell him you had fun and he's a really nice guy,but you like him as a friend and would like to stay friends,but dating him is like dating (if you have a brother)your brother...I really think this will keep him from getting to badly hurt...and you can remain friends...

tell him hes a great guy, but u guys dont click. u are 2 diff ppl who want diff things in life. he'd find sum1 better than u, and u'd find sum 1 a lil different.

Tell him the truth. Don't tag him along cause you think you are being nice. That's wasting everyones time involved if you do that.

just tell him gently but sternly that he is not your type, it hurts a little but it is better than saying I would not go out with you if you were the last man on earth.

if you put most of your weight on your knees and you use small quick movements with your hands and arms pushing allways to the left that should do it with the least amount of pain

tell him how good person he is, and how you wll always look at him as a dear friend, but tell him romantically it wont be possible, coz you consider him more of a friend than a lover.
