Well, I don't like that kinda stuff myself (mostly into CCM), but I can understand you're predicament: you want to do something, but you think that it might offend God.

First of all, the Bible doesn't say, "Thou shalt not listen to Rap, Hip-Hop, or any other kind of 'filthy' music." However, the Bible makes it clear that we should worship only God, and we should only praise Him. No idols beside God, and rap music can become an idol if you let it.

Secondly, it depends on what kind of rap music it is. Generally, rap music revolves around gangs, violence, foul language, lust, greed, pride, and other sins. And by buying that kind of music, you are helping to encourage and support those kinds of things.

So, I would say that you should probably stay away from excessively listening to rap music. I would like to suggest a few bands:

P.O.D
Relient K
Casting Crowns
Third Day
Skillet
Pillar

But please don't feel limited to the above! Feel free to pick your own music. There are Christian rap artists, after all!

I hope I have been helpful!

Well considering that in your question you are referring to Hip Hop as filthy music, it probably isn't going to edify you, or help you build a closer relationship with Christ. Now don't get it twisted Hip Hop in itself is nothing more than a music style or artform. I listen to Hip Hop myself, but I only listen to Christian Hip Hop maybe that might be something you wanna look into. It's sold at most Christian bookstores, Ex: Da Truth, Lecrae, Flame, KJ-52, The Tunnelrats, ABG, etc. Check these cats out. Sometimes God convicts us of certain things that he wants us to let go of, but he always replaces it with something pure that you'll enjoy even more, without the guilt. I dealt with the same issue and the Lord has blessed me for making the decision to die to myself. Peace and Blessings!

That depends on what a sin is, and who defines it. God, right? That's quite a matter of opinion really. I used to be a mormon, and it technically was a sin to drink tea because it had caffine (no addictive substances). But most people wouldn't consider it a sin. According to what I believe (you may feel differently), us humans define what is a sin. So if you think something is a sin, then it is. I don't think that the music your refering to is going to be nuturing for your mind or soul, much in the same way that eating at a fast food joint is good for your body. But it isn't a sin to eat at McDonalds, now is it?

I think that it is because just like you said, it's filthy language and about materialism, violence, glamorization of pimps, drug dealers, cop killers, prostitutes, etc.

It's a sin because it conditions people to sin if they listen to it enough. It's like brainwashing.

R&B is almost the same subject matter. But it is almost all about sex and often goes into pornographic detail, which is why I don't think that either form of music should be played around children. But it's a shame that that's exactly who is getting targeted with it in today's morally bankrupt culture.

Well, I don't think it is to listen to it. But how many times have you heard a song and it gets stuck in your head. And you sing it? Many I am sure. Let me just say this. What you put in your head, will eventually come out. And when you think your having a good time with the lord, in prayer, in scripture or what not. It will come into your head. Oh also...not all hip hop is filthy.

God cares about the person you are within and how you feel when exposed to various situations.

Sin in reality is a human concept when used as a "word" to label things things god would not like us to do. Real Sin is an act and how it effects others and how it effects you inside. If it doesn't hurt others or cause you to be sinful, then there is no sin within it.

I wanted to know this too for the longest time. My uncle says you're going to hell for listening to that type of music. He told me if I want to get right with the lord I have to get rid of the music as well. I love hard beats it's a part of my personality...I'm hard! So it's like telling a flower not to bend in the direction of sunlight. It's natural...nature! I'm naturally hard, so I naturally like hard hip hop beats! I'm real religous but I don' t think I have to tone down my barbarianism or masculinity. Interesting topic something I always wondered myself. Take care!

It depends upon you, if you feel uncomfortable and feel it as a sin then you must avoid. Otherwise no problem. Bcs. there is lot of other things which are sin, but people never care even after knowing that it is a great sin etc. etc. For eg. looking at stranger women with bad views is sin and so on, many things...........

I am also a Christian and listen to that music as well. I don't believe that it is a sin to listen to it, but acting on the things that are sung in those would be a total sin.

If YOU believe that the music you listen to is filthy, stop listening.

If you believe that God is Omnipotent, and knows what is in your heart, then He already knows what you are doing. What do you believe will be the consequences of your actions?
Does listening to this music make you happy?
If you believe that God created humans in his image and that there is something wrong with being happy, then complain to the manufacturer.
