In general larger dogs are more friendly and easier to train but are more difficult to handle if not trained as puppies. Friendliness has a lot to do with how the dog is socialized as a puppy. A small dog needs to meet more ppl than a large dog early on or he may become an unfriendly yapper. If socialized well they are just as friendly as big dogs. Also a big dog that is not well socialized can be even more dangerous than a small dog. As for training, you need to use different methods with most toy breeds and it takes a lot of patience, but it can be done.

I began breeding toys when I married my husband, who had a kennel, 38 years ago.
I have been breeding large breeds (and giant) for the past 24 years.
During that time I've also kept a small breed lap dog type.
I see no difference in trainability, or loyalty or love related to size.
Some breeds require different training methods, but those come in every size.
If you go to a dog show and watch the obedience classes, you will see ALL sizes competing and doing well. Lst years highest point obedience dog was a Papillon. The year before it was a Border collie, and the year before that it was a golden retriever.
I think all of the breed groups are well represented in the obedience trails.

not at all true. There is no rule about large versus small - only preference. some breeds are more independent or dependent than others - chows are very independent for example and dont' always bond as quickly as other dogs... I have grown up with large dogs my entire life and they've always been VERY affectionate and friendly and loyal (and protective but not in the mean way, just in a stand next to you when someone comes up type of way)... I had a small dog once and she was friendly but not as much as my larger ones.

i've trained a lot of dogs,,, and i have to say, that it all depends on what kind of dog you have or are getting. Smaller dogs are easier to train for most ppl, only because they are small and easy to control, but bigger dogs like labs or retrivers are often more loyal.
If you are looking for a dog who is loyal, smart, fun, a family dog, and eay to tame... you need a Bichon Frisee (expecially if they are part poodle!) ---although,,, they are very high maintenece...

It all depends on how it's raised really. If you raise them from a young age you can train them to be loyal and friendly. Little dogs are just like bigger dogs. If they're raised to be mean they'll be mean. My Busia got a little dog because it'd be better for the kids, and the dog bit the baby.

Nooo small dogs usually have something to prove. They also tend to take to only one person. Usually it seems the bigger the dog the more they want to please you and they aren't as easily threatened by things.
Easiest to tame/train is usually a dog from the working breeds cause they have been trained for years to work with people. Exp. retrievers, border collies, australian shepherds.

Small dogs are yappier and more aggressive. Bigger dogs have nothing to prove and generally tend to be gentle-natured unless kept in bad conditions and teased or trained to be aggressive. My little terrier was a terror, while the other two bigger dogs were much more gentle and easier to handle.

I think all dogs regardless of size and/or breed have the potential of being perfect loving pets with the right training that is. All I can say is that a chihuahua almost bit my hand off, damn dog!

i have 2 miniture dachshunds, 1 boy and 1 girl, and i think that they are just as friendly and loyal as a big dog, which i have had all my life before getting my weiners. although, i think that bigger breeds are easier to train. but it all depends on the breed.

Not at all necessary. Small dogs can be quite vicious, and big guys like st barnards, golden retrievers etc can be gentle giants. Its more on the way they are trained.
