The mucus is normal. I know it looks nasty. I offered my dog water during her birthing, she didn't want any. I took it to her rather her getting up. Then after she was finished giving birth, she didn't want to leave them. So I put a bowl right beside her. Good luck.

Sounds like you're doing well so far! Don't be afraid to call a vet for advice, either. They're usually happy to help. If you look in the yellow pages, the ads should tell you if they have 24-hour service or not.
Like a previous poster said, just make sure she gets the "sack" off of the puppy. Make sure that the nose is clear and uncovered. Her licking will usually do that just fine. If you have a puppy that doesn't start moving around and breathing on its own, pick it up with a hand-towel (for friction) and rub it somewhat vigorously, yet gently, with its nose pointed slightly downward. This can help to stimulate them and get them breathing. Pointing them downward helps to clear their air passages.
You may have puppies within minutes of each other, or within an hour or so of each other. I've seen slow deliveries and fast ones. She could also have some in rapid succession, and then tire a bit and have then come slower. As said, if it goes much over an hour, and she still appears to be having contractions, call the vet immediately, because it's likely that a puppy is stuck, or even that she's too tired to keep going.
Best of luck to you! Oh, and she probably won't want anything to eat or drink until later on... Just have it available in case she does decide that she is thirsty. Just don't be surprised if she does throw up if she drinks any...

Yes but how much? It is probably the mucus plug. Even humans have this. She should not have anything to eat or drink right now and she might not any way. Once the contractions are quick and regular be ready for the first pup. Let momma do as much as she can by herself. Just watch the first one and make sure that she gets it out of the "sack". It might take her 12-14 hours to deliver all of them so be patient. Dogs are made to do this alone so don't worry. She will let you know if she needs help. Good luck and Congratulations! Ohh and shivering is also normal.

The mucus is normal, she will continue to pass more fluids over the next few hours. Let her do her thing, it can take 1-2 hours in between puppies, so you are in for a long night.
If she starts having contractions ( you can see her abdomen tense up) but do not see any puppies and it has been more than an hour call your local emergency hospital, she may be in distress.
Oh, yeah, dogs can have breech puppies, if you see tails coming first that' OK. Sometimes people freak out about that.
Good luck, and let her do her thing it is instinct for them , they rarely need our help

No not at all Scooter, I assume you met this dear someone here, and what happened in your connection was a growing, and communicating beyond here. I have to believe there was some mutual enjoyment, but "slowly" is the process and I doubt you will be less thought of in the doing.
