Well, there is always the possibility that Da Vinci never got around to it cuz he died before it was completely finished (he carried it around for like 10 years....and it was painted on a wooden slab). Or, it may have been in style or Da Vinci thought it was attractive. Or, like the corners of the eyes and the corners of the lips are shaded so that they don't show emotion (they are the most expressive parts of the face), the eyebrows may have been left out to make the picture more mysterious. No one knows and no one will know because only Da Vinci knew and you know he won't tell us what he knew cuz he's no longer here. (hehe)

No one really knows for sure but, some sources say that:
1. It was a trend back then
2. The eyebrows may have been rubbed off by Da Vinci's assistant
3. It is a self-portrait of Da Vinci
4. The Mona Lisa is a MAN

There are four general reasons people don't have eyebrows.

1: a terrible bong accident burned them off.

2: chemotherapy

3: bar bet, or dare.

4: strange fashion to shave them off, and possibly paint them on later.

Number four often leads to repeatedly plucking the eyebrows, until they sometimes do not grow back. maybe that happened to her. She's a little young for that though. maybe it was a bar bet.

Maybe Davinci thought why not have a person without eyebrows. Actually I know some one who shaves off their eyebrows. Pretty disgusting. But their are alot of pretty weird people.

It is a well known but not often spoken about fact that Leonardo Da Vinci had a phobia about eyebrows.Freud wrote about this in his first few books. It is assumed that it had something to do with his childhood of having his hair plucked out by his grandmother but we can never really know for certain.

DaVinci painted her with eyebrows but he added the eyebrows last. wet paint on top of dry paint. Then in the 1700's an art restorer accidentally removed them during a cleaning of it.
