Water. Only pure water is rapidly mobilized for use in the body. When you are working out, all other nutrients are mobilized slowly. Anything in an energy drink won't be available until hours later. Meanwhile, important resources are wasted in order to digest and absorb them. This is counterproductive in the extreme.

Water, on the other hand can easily become critical during certain types of workouts. You can easily become dehydrated. But, drinking pure water will isntantly rehydrate you and instantly improve your performance. Drinking water with sugar and other crap in it will do the opposite. You can actually experience this for yourself. Go to the gym. Lift a heavy weight. Then, as you hold it up, take a sip of gatorade (or anything else for that matter). You will immediately and dramatically lose strength and drop the weight. Wiggy. Try it again with pure, clean water. Nothing will decrease and you might actually gain some strength if you were dehydrated.

The only possible exception to this is electrolytes. If you are running a marathon or something, and sweating for 3 to 5 hours straight, it IS possible to run critically low on electrolytes. Only then will an electrolyte drink help you. That is the only time those electrolytes will be absorbed quickly. But you still run the risk of it putting you out of action as your body moves resources away from physical activity and into digestion.

i should think red bull? a classmate of mine drank red bull before our annual physical education test and he ran very fast...! well, faster than his average speed that is. and i have had other friends that drank red bull and had a lot of energy

another alternative is honey drink. just mix a little honey with water and drink it at least half hour before what you wanna do. manuka honey is better than normal honey so you might want to try that.
