My friend is 21 and she dates this 31-year-old man. Is that he to old for her? What about having kids together?

Nope, 31 is not too old, but she has to understand the difference in thoughts that this will mean. They are both in different phases in their lives. As long as she is aware of this, and willing to adjust to his perspective and halp him see hers, I don't see why he would be too old for her. On the other hand, she may enjoy the security of someone settling well into life that she can depend on rather than someone her age, who, like her would be trying to figure out his life.

I'm in my thirties now; there's a big difference between a 21 year old and a 31 year old. No offense but someone in their twenties just doesn't have the same life experience as someone in their thirties. The maturity level is also different (although he's a man so maybe he's not so mature! LOL!). She might find it hard to relate to him (and he to her) on certain issues. Sometimes older men like to date younger women because the men think they can control the female. At the end of the day it's up to your friend to decide what's best for her.

not really, he can still have kids at 31, the opinions of younger women and older men have changed somewhat. my old boss is 57 and has a 36 yr old woman, it is really up to each person, your 21 yr old friend knows what makes her feel good, why should we judge her and cheat her out of happiness. it is mostly older neglected women that have the negative opinions anyways,
not all mind you but a lot of them. dating doesn't necessarily mean they will have kids together, she may have her experience with an older guy, and then move on to someone closer to her generation. that really isn't that big of age difference or generation difference. she was born in 1985 and he was born in 1975, the same music was playing during that time, world events were still about the same. it's not like she was heavy metal era and he was big band era.

I did something VERY similar... when I was 23 I dated a 33 yr old man...it lasted longer than it should have...all because the old man didn't want to give up his young girlfriend...Not that 33 is old..its NOT! But this 33 year old man dug the hell out of having a younger girlfriend.

back to your question...lol....

I guess most importantly is how does he treat her? Is she happy? There are some people who are just destined to have older partners in life...10 years is quite a gap but I don't think it's unreasonable...

It's better than a 21 year old and an 11 year old.

As we get older, the age gap matters less.

Are they good together? Do they make each other happy?

Is she mature for her age? Is he immature for his age?

He could be one that is passing through, or she could be looking for a father figure to look after her.

IMHO - 10 years isn't too bad.

NO I do not think that is too old but it does depend on the maturity level of both your friend and her boyyfriend. What works for some couples does not necessarily work for other couples...Generally women are more mature than men so they may be on the same wave in that respect and it could be a wonderful balance.

If he were too old for her, she wouldn't be dating him. Apparently she doesn't mind. Just wish them luck. Maybe it will work out, maybe it won't, but that's true for all relationships.

Age does matter in a person's life, but the difference can be a good thing as much as it can be a bad thing. It's just a part of who a person is at the time.

well i do agree that age is not everything that love wins over all. but you have to think about how you would feel about barely turning 30 one day and him turning 40, if i had not met my husband and my true love ended up being older like that i would not have let it be the difference more than likely but it is something to consider how you would feel having someone grown old way before you.

It depends if they have anything in common or not! My husband is five years younger than me and we get along great. We have a lot of the same interests...that's all that matters!

geeeeez get over it, its not like the kids gonna come out with two heads or something. age is nothing but a number and at that age she is old enough to decide for herself..
