Are you scared of power? Thinder is an inspiring and powerful energy.

When there is thunder imagine the energy is recharging you, soak it up and channel it into something creative - draw, play an instrument, write poetry. By the time the storm ends you will be buzzing with life! it is a natural high. (doing something creative also doubles to distract you from the storm if you are still a bit nervous).

It very much depends on how much it affects you. Many people are scared of thunder and lightening to the point where they wont go outside during a storm and feel a bit anxious about it - myself included. That's normal I'd say.

However, if you are phobic about it to the point where you fear it everyday, or when a storm starts you show physical symptoms such as panic attacks, breathing problems, an inability to cope generally - then obviously it is affecting your life adversely and some professional help could be required.

Hypnotherapy, or even just talking to a therapist, might help.

It's the lightning you should be scared of, not the thunder! The thunder only comes after the lightning strike, so if you are standing on a golf course with a big umbrella and are still alive to hear it then you are okay..! XD

Thunder makes everyone jump - like any banging noises. Jumping is a natural instinctive response. No need to be scared of thunder though.

Have you tried getting a sounds CD with thunderstorms on it? Perhaps you can gradually desensitize yourself to the noise?

This might sound really silly but the next time it is tundering go with a friend or family and sit or stand out in it, This should help you get over your phobia. GOOD LUCK.
