Too many of the societal mechanisms that once helped mold the character of young people have broken down. Kids are turning out to be arrogant, self-absorbed monsters.
Last year, I watched in total fascination a show called "Brat Camp". Parents sent their out-of-control teens to a wilderness camp where these kids had to do chores, work as a team, obey instructions, and not indulge in any of their bad habits: drinking, drug use, etc.
I think every kid should have this kind of experience.
In a lot of foreign countries, military service is often a young person's only chance to see the world outside his own little town. This was especially true before the Internet age. Now, people are a little more sophisticated, but when I was in college back in the 1980s, I took a semester in Spain. I remember meeting some guys performing their obligatory military service. A lot of them were from very small towns and had literally never been to a big city, nor experienced all the things we take for granted.
Even though they didn't particularly like military service, they liked being out of their little one horse towns. The experience gave them new ideas to consider and let them meet people of different backgrounds.

SURE!! Im only 12, and I want to join the Army. Whats wrong with that?
Of course, the government neglects the idea of girls in the military because of the whole "they are our future" thing. If women got free rights and they can join the military, who said girls cant do the same thing? Eventually they might let us, although probably not in real battle. Most likely behind the scenes things. Mechanical work, computers, maybe even warrant officers. If they do eventually let girls go into combat, I hope alot will be ready to show that girls can do alot of things, some things better than boys.
When the day comes..we will be ready.

NO!! And not all women are hyped up on the equal rights thing.Real women want the door opened for them. But for those women that" open doors " there probably is a place in the military for them! Women are the weaker sex, there is no way a woman can compete with a man as far as strength. But as far as employment or owning their own business. Most women are as smart as any man and most often even smarter!

Maybe but only on a voluntary basis. Actually most women could not cut it. Take it from a combat veteran. Maybe more hi tech jobs, pilots, missiles etc. Never would make it as grunts, sorry. Now as for males they should draft every single one of them . Start with the advantaged and rich and save the downtrodden for last.

Absolutely not, if you mean military service. A man in combat has enough to worry about without adding to the mix.

There's no reason that women can't serve their country just as ably as men. I think that this is best shown in the Israeli military. Women have served there beside men in combat roles since the 1940's with valor.

I don't see why not (considering they are already in the military and serving..) As long as they are willing to pull their own weight then more power to them, But If they are not willing (Just like some of the men I have worked with) they need to find something else...

I don't think girls are really cut out for military service. Women, on the other hand, have proven their worth many times over in the history of our military. Women are always welcome.
