Mohandas K Gandhi (Mahatma) told people: If a man Strikes you take no retaliation, Love that person even when they are hurting you.
Jesus said If a man strikes you on one cheek offer the other also. Love your enemies, do good to those that persecute you,....

Gandhi and Jesus seem to promulgate very similar perspectives and principles.
The bible says "we will know they are Christians by their love" and Gandhi loved his enemies. He even loved the one who shot him by immediately asking that no one hurt him or judge him while he lay their dieing.

This being said isn't Gandhi a Christian even though he professed to be a Hindu?

Gandhi On Christianity

Gandhi one visited a church, in his younger years, while studying in England. He was turned away at the door being told he should go worship with his own people.
He then said, "if the caste system also exists in Christianity, I might as well stay Hindu."
He never professed Christianity nor was a direct follower of Christ, though he did admire him and look deep into his teachings.
However there are 2 requirements to being a Christian, the first is believing in your heart, and the second is confessing with your mouth that he is Lord.

and Christian is someone who follows Christ. That is the meaning of the word, however Christ wasn't the only one Gandhi followed, so in ways he also went against Christ's teachings.
I don't think it is at all possible for Gandhi to have been Christian.

Gandhi wasn't Christian, he was either Buddhist or Hindu. just because one religion has one or two factors that are alike does not make them the same religion. for instance, Wicca and Satanism use magic, worship gods that Christians have dubbed as evil and vile, and have at least one entity that has horns on its head (Wiccans have Pan, Satanists have...well, Satan and the Baphomet). Yet, they are still two different religions. if a Wiccan curses someone, they believe that they will be hurt too. Satanists don't believe that will happen as long as you don't care if the target dies a terrible death.

Hindus believe in more than one god. Christians only believe in one. that's why Gandhi wasn't a Christian. However, Gandhi was a good man, but a dreamer and a willing-to-beaten-and-walked-all-over doormat.

Gandhi is a Hindu. Its just that he accepted and believed in many religions teachings and propagated them widely in his speeches to people.

I'm an Indian and I don't believe Gandhi was as everyone says he was.. like loving his enemies and... No one knows the inner thoughts of a person so you can't mark anyone as good, the same with Gandhi. And I have strong reasons to say Gandhi had another face which is hidden to many. One more thing, a Christian first loves Jesus (and coz he/she loves Jesus he/she loves everyone as oneself) and their relationship foreruns everything.... And how can you say both had similar personalities. Gandhi is no where near my Lord Jesus... his life cannot move my bowels as Jesus' life can.

No, because to be a Christian, you must confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Believing the same things as someone of a different religion does not make you in that person’s religion
