I have seen it in action. An abuser for many years, never legally procecuted was recently attacked by a dog.
Mother of a Crack Baby goes to have a hysterectomy and they accidently cut her bladder.
I almost feel sorry for them but all I can say is Karma, sooner or later, this life or the next...
Anybody got examples?

The baby is my niece by marriage and she suffers because of her mother's choices. So She's not just an addict, she is a mother.

Karma makes sense. Every action has a chain of consequences. It is the basic law of cause and effect.
I lost my wallet straight after giving money to a homeless guy. The next day it was returned will all my rent still in it. I am sure he was the one who returned it. I bet if i had not given him $2 he would not have returned it with all the money. I did not know i was going to loose my wallet and therefore did not plan to give the man the $2 to guarantee it's return.
While we cannot have expectations that something good will happen as a result of helping someone it is a good principle to live by!

These confusions are because, like in any scientific inquiry, we need ALL the facts to come to a fair and reasonable conclusion. Karma includes the individual's actions of the past which has to bear its fruits, PLUS the cumulative results of individual and collective actions of others around also. Look at students individually, and collectively in a typical situation. We call it mob-psychology. Students behave differently when in a group. Such collective thought force too has its 're-active' effect. Also, the force or intensity of these individual versus collective actions do have a proportional bearing on the karma residue.

So, is karma something like "what goes around, comes around?" I don't strictly believe in karma of the soul, which is the kind of karma I've seen the word related to the most. I do believe that The Almighty, in his omniscient wisdom, can determine some things in our lives, and this includes people we meet and even our lovers and/or spouses. But I don't see the kind of cause and effect karma that you describe as being part of a Karmic force on earth.

Karma is the biggest truth in our life. Shri Krishna, the god incarnated supported the Karma
It is the Karma which are responsible of our present life..and our todays Karmas are determining our future
Buddhism goes another step beyond saying..it is the karma only which is responsible for our life, death and next life.
If we detach ourselves from all karma, good or bad..we go beyond the body and become divine. This is the message of Gita

Karma is defined by it's action.
Often people expect a swift proof of it's existence.
It is easily dismissed if one does not see or experience it's result.
I firmly believe in this law.
It brings stability in a chaotic world.
It is ironic that I see it as comforting perhaps as Einstein viewed Newtonian Physics. It is a balance as DemiGoddess says.
When I wonder when it's results will appear, I am often reminded of the phrase "in God's time, not mine".
I too feel exactly as you do DemiGoddess. After practicing most of my life doing the best I can to help others I sometimes bemoan the fact that I am not reaping the rewards of my efforts. The realization that if one expects a reward than the act itself is neutralized.
I am reminded of the Publican and the Pharisee of my Catholic upbringing. The Pharisee shouts to the Lord of his giving to him to show off in front of others. That attention becomes his reward. Temporal at best. The publican gives in silence and in secret. His reward becomes one of the treasures of heaven.
Expect nothing and the law will fullfill itself.

yeah i belive in Karma. its not just this life, its something that your soul carries from one life to next. there is so much more to this than i know. but its very true.
i'll tell u a story from ..long long time ago. its from a Hindu scripture Mahabharta. there was a king Dhritraastra. he was blind. he asked Lord Krishna that i have the insight upto my 100 past lives, and i have never done any such karma that would make me blind in this life. Lord Krishna gave him further insight into his 106th past life, in that life when he was a child, he had poked a frog into the eye. and as result of that he was blind in this life.
i think i told this story right, if i m wrong then i m sorry. but i m pretty sure this is how it was. i'll reaserch more and get back to u with a more accurate form of it.

I believe there is justice in the world, in some form or other. I think it'd be better if you say a crack addict instead of mother of a crack baby. It makes it sound as though you're blaming the child's existance.
