You don't even wanna know...There is no fixed specification for hot dog meat, with pork and beef being the most popular. Less expensive hot dogs typically contain chicken, due to the low cost and availability of mechanically separated chicken, and some pork. Hot dogs are generally regarded as unhealthy insofar as most have high sodium, fat and nitrate content. Contents can also be questionable, with cheaper types of hot dogs having been known to contain snouts, ears and organ meat blended. In recent years, manufacturers have turned to completely turkey, chicken, or vegetarian meat substitutes as well as lowering the salt content; due to changing dietary preferences in the U.S.

All hot dogs are cured and cooked sausages that consist of mainly pork, beef, chicken and turkey or a combination of meat and poultry. Meats used in hot dogs come from the muscle of the animal and looks much like what you buy in the grocer's case. Other ingredients include water, curing agents and spices, such as garlic, salt, sugar, ground mustard, nutmeg, coriander and white pepper.

Farmer John Premium Hot Dogs are made from the brisket (YES! they are real meat).

You want to stay away from hot dogs that have fillers and by products.

You see, the Oscar Meyer wiener mobile isn't actually for advertising...it drives around the country picking up small animals to grind up for hot dogs.

Pretty much all the parts of the animal that are left over after all the good parts are chopped off. Except for the bones, but that's questionable.

I heard it was the remains of the animal after they have taken out the meats they need. When they grind the meats, many bugs and what not get in it. the same with peanut butter...
